Dear Eric: It has recently come to light that the father of my goddaughter has been cheating on his wife for almost the entirety of their 30-year marriage. For some reason, the wife has decided to stay with this man. My goddaughter’s destination wedding is coming up soon. I don’t want to be in a room with this man, let alone hug or converse with him. Any tips on how to remain civil over the course of the weekend? — Disgusted Godmom Dear Godmom: You can respect your goddaughter’s mother’s choice while drawing a personal line with the father. When high school dominance met pro ball reality, Zac Veen was shook. Veen, Colorado’s first-round draft pick at No. 9 overall in 2020, had to wait nearly a year to make his minor-league debut after the pandemic wiped out the ’20 season. And when he finally began his career with Low-A Fresno in ’21, it was a rough start for the former Spruce Creek (Fla.) sensation. The line in his first six games: 3 for 20, with 13 strikeouts. “I don’t think I struck out that many times in one entire season in high school,” Veen said. “But I just…

Chase Dollander looked like the Rockies’ pitcher of the future. The Rockies’ offense? Same as it ever was. Colorado managed just four hits in a 2-0 loss to the Padres on Saturday night. Kyle Farmer hit a bloop double in the fourth and a single in the ninth. Nick Martini hit a leadoff, pinch-hit single in the eighth. Rookie outfielder Zac Veen flashed his speed to beat out an infield single in the ninth. The Veen-Farmer combo gave the Rockies a fighting chance in the ninth, but Padres super closer Robert Suarez struck out Ryan McMahon for the second out.…

Yapi hour in Commerce City lasts 66 minutes. A game of a lifetime from 19-year old Darren Yapi was enough for the Rapids to hand San Diego FC its second-ever loss as a franchise, 3-2. Djordje Mihailovic opened the scoring in the 37th minute from the penalty spot. Yapi earned the call after SDFC goalkeeper CJ dos Santos clipped him in the box. VAR had a lengthy review, but the call was confirmed. Yapi started in place of winger Kévin Cabral and the Rapids switched up the formation to a fluid-looking 4-4-2. The added attacker in Yapi, next to an…

By DOUG FERGUSON AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — The greatest start in the 91-year history of the Masters wasn’t enough for Rory McIlroy. He delivered what looked to be a haymaker late Saturday afternoon, a 6-iron so majestic and pure that he walked 10 yards before he saw it land 6 feet away for eagle on the 15th hole. Bryson DeChambeau wasn’t the least fazed. He hit his tee shot to 4 feet for birdie on the par-3 16th, posing briefly to stare at the leaderboard, working up a gallery already delirious from a roaring, raucous at Augusta National. “When I…

Dallas, Tranquility Base here. The Eagles have Landy. Even if Gabe Landeskog never skates a shift at the American Airlines Center, Lone Star faithful oughta be quaking in their chaps. The Stars got Mikko. The Avs got Miracles. I mean, sure, our old pal Mikko Rantanen got $96 million out of Dallas. Can’t put a price on mojo. Just hand Landeskog the ESPY now. No NHL player has ever skated again after the kind of cartilage repair the Captain had done. No NHL player had even seen a second act. Until now. And wouldn’t you know it? In Landeskog’s conditioning…
