The subtly clever ending of Sandy Rustin’s comedy “The Suffragette’s Murder” is sure to resonate with film fans of the late 1930s, referencing the 1939 version of the big-screen adaptation of “The Women.” Like that film, this play riffs on gender politics, but in the mid-1800s when they were beginning to first take hold. The play takes place on the morning of July 5, 1857, nine years after the first women’s rights convention at Seneca Falls. Alma Mayhew (Megan Hill), her husband, Albert (Matthew Boston), and some of the tenants of their boarding house are making plans for a clandestine meeting…
Which eyelash curler is best? Who doesn’t want long, fluttery eyelashes? If your mascara alone isn’t giving you the lashes you want and you’d rather not mess with false lashes, an eyelash curler can make all the difference. A curler creates a curve in your lashes that helps them look longer and thicker and gives the appearance of opening up your eyes, so they look wider. Our top pick by Brilliant Beauty is made of stainless steel for added durability and includes a satin travel pouch to keep the curler safe when you’re on the go. What to know before…
By ANNE D’INNOCENZIO, Associated Press Retail WriterNEW YORK (AP) — Walmart delivered another year of strong sales and profits with its competitive prices an increasingly strong magnet for inflation-weary shoppers, but 2025 appears to come with new challenges in an uncertain economic landscape. The outlook from the nation’s largest retailer for 2025 is as much as 27 cents below analyst projections for per-share earnings and for the quarter, Walmart’s expectations are as much as 7 cents below Wall Street projections. Its sales outlook is also disappointing, potentially a reflection of rising challenges ahead as consumers pull back on spending and President Donald…
By LINDSAY WHITEHURST, CHRIS MEGERIAN and MICHAEL KUNZELMAN, Associated PressWASHINGTON (AP) — Although some parts of President Donald Trump’s agenda are getting bogged down by litigation, Elon Musk ’s Department of Government Efficiency is having better luck in the courtroom.Labor unions, Democrats and federal employees have filed several lawsuits arguing that DOGE is running roughshod over privacy protections or usurping power from other branches of government. But judges appointed by Democratic and Republican presidents haven’t always gone along with those arguments, at least so far. Most notably, DOGE critics are failing to obtain temporary restraining orders that would prevent Musk’s team…

(Courtesy of the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance via Facebook.com)The Denver zoo’s red-necked wallaby Adelaide has a new baby hanging out in her pouch.Animal caretakers can’t tell the exact birthday of wallabies because as soon as they are born, the jelly-bean-sized young quickly crawl into their mother’s pouch, where they will develop for 12-17 months. The zoo estimates that this joey was born around Sept. 1.The zoo reports the joey has been seen peeking out more, which means…
Denver’s Fair Elections Fund, a purse intended to help more candidates for mayor and other city offices compete financially, will have new stipulations after the City Council approved changes to its rules on Tuesday. The fund, which was approved by voters in 2018, provides 9-to-1 matching for small-dollar contributions to campaigns, granting up to $450 of taxpayer dollars per $50 donation. The changes, approved unanimously, will ban anonymous donations, require “neutral debates” for participating candidates, pave the way for campaign finance investigations and prohibit the use of the public money on certain things like alcohol. Before the updates, candidates were allowed to accept anonymous…
The email’s subject line was “Save $200 on caviar.” This, the email informed me, brought the price of a 125-gram tin of Petrossian Imperial Ossetra down to a bargain $399 — or more than I’d ever spent on a week’s worth of groceries for my family of four, probably ever.Later, as I flipped on the new season of “The White Lotus” for some wealth voyeurism, I thought about that email again. We all know prices of, well, pretty much everything, are up — insert your own joke about ridiculously expensive eggs here — and I wondered what the market was…
