A Fort Collins woman will undergo a surgery to prevent pregnancy. A Thornton couple has decided to embrace male birth control through a vasectomy. A mother in Evergreen plans to stock up on morning-after pills. And a transgender man in Colorado Springs worries about his access to testosterone.Although voters enshrined abortion access in the state’s constitution last fall, some Coloradans still feel uneasy about the permanency of reproductive health care and gender-affirming care under President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration. With the Republican leader set to take office for the second time on Monday, several Front Range residents told The Denver…
Superintendent Alex Marrero sent a memo to Denver Public Schools’ principals last week ahead of President Donald Trump’s return to office, offering training about what they and their front-office staff should do if federal immigration officers show up at their schools.School leaders, he wrote, should deny U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents entry into their buildings. Next, staff should place those schools on a secure perimeter, meaning no one is allowed in or out.Meanwhile, Marrero wrote, school staff should use the intercom to communicate with ICE officers, including asking for their badge numbers and whether they have a warrant. Then…
As the chair of Colorado’s Joint Budget Committee, a billion dollars is a lot. Maybe folks in Congress can joke that a billion here and a billion there adds up to real money, but in Colorado we run a tight ship. This year we’ll balance our state’s general fund at right around $16.5 billion.Without changing any of our budget investment strategies from last year, then adding in the $350 million for public safety required by voters, we’re at just over a billion in the red. That’s really not good for Colorado families and our state’s economic future.Unlike a household budget,…
With the presidential inauguration on Monday, the Trump administration is set to kick off a series of policy moves focused on, among many things, reducing government waste. It’s not surprising to see a renewed focus on our government’s and politicians’ extravagant spending, especially when some families struggle to put food on the table because of persistent inflation (which is arguably also a result of government action). Aptly named “DOGE,” an acronym for the Department of Government Efficiency — and a subtle nod to a cryptocurrency by the same name — Trump has appointed well-known entrepreneur Elon Musk of Tesla fame, and…

By LINDSAY WHITEHURST, ASHRAF KHALIL and CHRISTINE FERNANDO, Associated PressWASHINGTON (AP) — Thousands of people from around the United States rallied in the nation’s capital Saturday for women’s reproductive rights and other causes they believe are under threat from the incoming Trump administration, reprising the original Women’s March days before President-elect Donald Trump’s second inauguration.Eight years after the first historic Women’s March at the start of Trump’s first term, marchers said they were caught off guard by Trump’s victory and are determined now to show that support remains strong for women’s access to abortion, for transgender people, for combating climate…
