Even before the NFL draft dust settled, Sean Payton felt good about the Broncos’ seven-man rookie class.By the time training camp rolled around, he wasn’t afraid to say so publicly. The calendar hadn’t yet turned to August when Payton told NFL Network, “I think you’ll see this as the season unfolds with this draft class: It’s been an impressive group. We all root for our draft classes and yet you go by what you see. I was talking with (owner and CEO) Greg Penner the other day and I said, ‘You just mark my words: Three or four years from now,…
The Broncos are moving to prime time.In a first-of-its-kind move, Denver’s Week 16 game at the Los Angeles Chargers has been flexed from Sunday afternoon to Thursday night. That means the game moves from Dec. 22 up to Dec. 19.The NFL can’t force teams to play two Thursday night games on the road, meaning the Broncos signed off on the move from a Sunday afternoon game to prime time.As a result of the change, Denver will have less time to prepare for the Chargers after a Week 15 home game against Indianapolis, but more time going into its Week 17 game…
Colorado homes for sale are at their highest levels in over a decade.According to the October Market Trends Housing Report from the Colorado Association of Realtors, with 3.5 months’ supply in the seven-county Denver metro area, active home listings are up 14% year-over-year. Statewide, with 3.8 months’ supply, active listings are up nearly 17%.“While Denver has consistently been characterized as a seller’s market throughout recent years, current trends indicate a moderate shift toward a buyer’s market this winter season,” said Cooper Thayer, a broker associate with the Thayer Group in Castle Rock.Despite the increased inventory, prices remain near record highs,…
A Colorado Springs Police Department sergeant was arrested on suspicion of intimidating a victim while he was being investigated for claims of inappropriate sexual contact with a minor. Colorado Springs police learned of the allegations against Thomas in Woodland Park on Oct. 16. He has worked at the department for 31 years, most recently in the DUI unit, and is now on paid administrative leave. No charges have been filed in…
Nik Bonitto is closing in on a major milestone. On Sunday against the Raiders, Denver’s third-year edge rusher will need just one sack to become the first Bronco to record double-digit sacks in a single season since Von Miller and Bradley Chubb both did it in 2018. At nine sacks total, Bonitto’s tied for second-most in the league.Head coach Sean Payton said part of the reason Bonitto has had an uptick in his numbers is because he is playing more snaps. Last season, Bonitto would come in on third-down situations to create pressure. Due to his growth as a run defender,…
As the number grew on Janet Lowry’s GoFundMe page, the scope of her life came into focus just as it was ending.Hundreds turned into thousands until more than 400 donations totaled a little under $100,000 — all in support of Janet and her husband, Columbine football coach Andy Lowry, as she neared the final days of a seven-year battle with cancer, much of which had been fought in private.“I sure wish in my lifetime that I could pay it forward like these people have paid it to me,” longtime friend Monica Kellogg recalled Janet telling her.In reality, the community was…
During a Week 9 blowout loss at Baltimore, Broncos defensive end Zach Allen noticed he was getting double-teamed more frequently.Such is life when you’re as productive as Allen’s been through the first three months of the NFL season. One differentiator between Allen’s first season in Denver and this one: He’s got a teammate on the defensive line capable of making offenses pay when they dedicate extra resources to him. It’s not a coincidence, then, that John Franklin-Myers has two sacks in Denver’s past three games and has made more splash plays the more attention Allen’s commanded.“If you’re rushing four and the center…

U.S. regulators want a federal judge to break up Google to prevent the company from continuing to squash competition through its dominant search engine after a court found it had maintained an abusive monopoly over the past decade. The proposed breakup floated in a 23-page document filed late Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Justice calls for sweeping punishments that would include a sale of Google’s industry-leading Chrome web browser and impose restrictions to prevent Android from favoring its own search engine. The proposal comes after the Justice Department and a coalition of 38 states, including Colorado, filed lawsuits alleging Google used…
