FTC sues ticket reseller, saying it illegally exceeded purchase limits for Taylor Swift, other shows
By DEE-ANN DURBIN The U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit Monday against a ticket broker, alleging the company used illegal tactics to exceed purchasing limits for popular events and then resold tickets at significantly higher prices. In a lawsuit filed in federal court in Maryland, the FTC said Maryland-based ticket broker Key Investment Group has used thousands of fictitious Ticketmaster accounts and other methods to buy tickets for events, including Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. According to the FTC, Key Investment Group – which does business under brand names like Epic Seats and Totally Tix – purchased at least 379,776…
After four weeks, Joe Flacco has emerged as the winner of the Cleveland Browns’ four-way quarterback competition. The Browns announced on Monday that Flacco will get the start when the Browns host AFC North rival Cincinnati in the Sept. 7 opener. Coach Kevin Stefanski indicated over the past week that decision was coming. The Browns were off on Sunday after their 22-13 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles but had a team meeting on Monday. The 40-year old Flacco beat out Kenny Pickett and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Deshaun Watson is on the roster, but is expected to miss…
There are times when Joseph Williams gets together with his receiver and quarterback teammates and still has that instinct to throw the ball. “I still miss playing quarterback, because it’s super fun,” he said. The Colorado sophomore, however, has grown to love catching the ball and is eager to bust loose in his first year with the Buffaloes. “A lot,” Williams said when asked how much he enjoys being a receiver. “You get the reality of being the superhero, and it’s one of the best things in the world to be a receiver and catch touchdowns, especially in front of…
Rocky Mountain National Park rangers rescued an injured climber who fell while scaling one of the national park’s mountains Sunday morning. The climber fell from the south face of Petit Grepon in Rocky Mountain National Park, injuring his lower leg, according to a news release from the park service. Park officials said the man was roped into the mountain, which kept him from falling to the ground. With the help of his partner, the unidentified man was able to rappel to the base of the climbing route, where a team of park rangers had assembled to provide medical care. A…
Dear Eric: Several months ago, a group of friends and I planned a vacation trip for this coming fall. We pre-paid the hotel costs, all-inclusive fees and paid for round-trip airline tickets. A few weeks ago, I received a “save the date” postcard from my nephew and his fiancée. The wedding will be held in a state fairly distant from where I live and is planned on dates right in the middle of my vacation. While it would be wonderful to be with my sister — his mother — and her family for the wedding, I am conflicted about canceling…

After that, the Moon moves from GEMINI into CANCER. Happy Birthday for Monday, Aug. 18, 2025: You are a determined, independent thinker who can be inspirational. You’re also benevolent. This year you reap the benefits of your hard work. Expect increased power and leadership, plus acknowledgements, awards, promotions and kudos. It’s a time of major decisions and accomplishments. The Broncos are 10 days from some painful roster decisions. Sean Payton, however, would prefer to lose a good player because his team has more than it can keep rather than the alternative. “There’re going to be a number of tough decisions, but I’d rather be in that position than the position we were in two years ago at this time,” he said after his reserves battered Arizona’s, 27-7, in the second of three preseason games. “I think the talent level has gradually gotten better.” Preseason games don’t count outside of individual evaluation. They don’t give any meaningful insight into…
Today is Monday, Aug. 18, the 230th day of 2025. There are 135 days left in the year. Today in history: On Aug. 18, 2005, a judge in Wichita, Kansas, sentenced BTK serial killer Dennis Rader to 10 consecutive life terms, the maximum the law would allow. Also on this date: In 1590, John White, the governor of the Roanoke Island colony (in present-day North Carolina), returned to Roanoke after nearly three years abroad only to find the settlement deserted; the fate of the “Lost Colony” remains a mystery. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson issued his Proclamation of Neutrality, aimed…
SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco Giants center fielder Jung Hoo Lee may have made the catch of the year — at least. Tampa Bay’s Yandy Díaz drove a pitch to deep right-center, known as Triples Alley at Oracle Park, and Lee made a play that created a buzz Sunday on social media as San Francisco beat the Rays 7-1. The ball…
Two words did the job just fine, because nobody needed any kind of soliloquy to understand the things Troy Franklin was doing Saturday night. “It’s happening,” Sean Payton nodded to reporters. The Broncos head coach saw this coming this offseason before the rest of the world physically could. He saw it a year and a half ago, when he traded away a few late-round picks to invest in Franklin penny stock. He saw a 6-foot-3 springboard trainer Drew Lieberman recently described as a “raw ball of clay,” who had been Bo Nix’s favorite target at Oregon without knowing the full…
