This Caprese Grilled Chicken dish pairs boneless, skinless bird with torn wedges of fresh mozzarella cheese and basil oil. It’s a summery concoction that adds a delicious touch of acidity and sweetness by adding a quick pickle topping of cherry tomatoes. The halved tomatoes take about 25 minutes to prepare, most of that time unsupervised with tomato halves resting in a pleasing brine that stars white balsamic vinegar. White balsamic vinegar is made from the same Trebbiano grape as dark balsamic vinegar. The white vinegar has a milder, less sweet taste than its darker counterpart. By CHARLOTTE KRAMON and JEFF MARTIN, Associated Press ATLANTA (AP) — The man who fired more than 180 shots with a long gun at the headquarters of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention broke into a locked safe to get his father’s weapons and wanted to send a message against COVID-19 vaccines, authorities said Tuesday. Documents found in a search of the home where Patrick Joseph White had lived with his parents “expressed the shooter’s discontent with the COVID-19 vaccinations,” Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey said. White, 30, had written about wanting to make “the public aware of…
Ready to set your alarm? The annual Perseid meteor shower, which NASA has called the best meteor shower of the year — and which inspired John Denver to write “Rocky Mountain High” more than 50 years ago — is underway now. It’s expected to peak Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. The astronomical show often generates as many as 50 to 75 shooting stars per hour over California and much of the United States. This year, however, the view will be limited by a nearly-full moon on the peak night. “You’ll still be able to see meteors,” said Ben Burress,…

A 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash in which Denver police say he intentionally rammed the motorcycle. The argument escalated when someone on the motorcycle fired a shot at Ortega-Camero, and then he collided with the motorcycle, pushing it into the path of another vehicle near the intersection of East Hamden Avenue and South Yosemite Street. One person was dead at the scene and the other person on…
The FBI is warning people of a new scam involving fake packages with QR codes designed to steal data. If people scan the code on a package they were not expecting, it prompts them to provide personal and financial information. They also might download malicious software that steals data from their phones, according to an FBI scam alert issued late last month. The criminals often ship the package without sender information to entice the victims to scan the code. The fake packages, while not widespread, are a variation of a “brushing scam,” which is used by online vendors to increase…
By MIKE STOBBE NEW YORK (AP) — The man who attacked the CDC headquarters in Atlanta on Friday fired more than 180 shots into the campus and broke about 150 windows, with bullets piercing “blast-resistant” windows and spattering glass shards into numerous rooms, according to information circulated internally at the agency. It may take weeks or even months to replace windows and clean up the damage, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention personnel said. A Georgia man who had blamed the COVID-19 vaccine for making him depressed and suicidal opened fire late Friday, killing a police officer. No one at…
By WYATTE GRANTHAM-PHILIPS, Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — AOL’s dial-up internet is finally taking its last bow. Yes, while perhaps a dinosaur by today’s digital standards, dial-up is still around. But AOL says it’s officially pulling the plug for its service on Sept. 30. “AOL routinely evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue Dial-up Internet,” AOL wrote in a brief update on its support site — noting that dial-up and associated software “optimized for older operating systems” will soon be unavailable on AOL plans. AOL, formerly America Online, introduced many households to the world wide web…
More than half a dozen wildfires continued to burn across Colorado Monday, including a new fire that sparked on Sunday afternoon near Pagosa Springs.
