A local shareholder will examine the internal records of a single-branch bank in Lakewood to determine whether its chairman squandered the bank’s profits on a fleet of aircraft that he used to travel to Denver Nuggets games, where he became known as the “Red Pant Man.” In an oral ruling Feb. 6 that took more than an hour to read, Delaware Chancery Court Judge Bonnie David decided that Rob Salazar can inspect certain records of Solera Bank. “I am convinced that the (bank) board’s decision not to pay a dividend in 2020, viewed together with the company’s acquisition of an…
Plenty of teams talk about brotherhood, but this winter Denver South boys basketball embodied that term en route to a historic season. The Ravens feature three sets of brothers, along with a brother tandem on the bench in head coach Vince Valdez and his assistant Ray Valdez. Behind those family forces, Denver South captured its first title in the City League (formerly known as the Denver Prep League) since 1963. “I don’t think we were expected to do what we did in league, and we were counted out by a lot of teams at the start of the season,” said…
A local family is currently working on opening an indoor golf facility that is expected to soft open this spring, offering residents the chance to hit the links indoors. TeeShots, nestled along the southwest side of downtown Loveland, will function as an indoor golf entertainment and training center, offering four golf simulation bays as well as a full service bar. Mike Bitner, co-owner with his wife Eileen Bitner and son Jeremy Bitner, said they are combining golfing and drinking. “My favorite line is I retired a year ago (in) January and I don’t have room in my house for a…

A $1,100 to $1,400 painting charge. A $200 re-keying fee, a $500 cleaning charge, $500 to $600 in additional trash charges and $800 in utility overages. These are just a few of the roughly $3,000 in fees charged to Katie Davis when it was time to move out of her duplex on University Hill. Davis lived in the property, owned by Four Star Realty, from August 2018 to August 2020 as a student at the University of Colorado Boulder. “This is my first apartment that I had ever rented by myself and I think that’s pretty indicative of most students…

(Cliff Grassmick/Staff Photographer) With five new coaches on staff and another in a new position, the Colorado football program will have the largest assistant coach salary pool in its history this season. The 10 full-time assistant coaches will make a combined $4.65 million in base and supplemental salary, per contract details obtained by BuffZone. That’s slightly higher than the previous record of $4.59 million last year, although less than what it would have been had the 2023 staff stayed intact…

By Holden Lewis | NerdWallet You feel demoralized about the housing market, right? Hold on. After a grim 2022 and 2023, it looks like 2024 is shaping up to be less hostile to home buyers. Here’s a summary of what’s been rotten in the state of housing: Home prices skyrocketed from the middle of 2020 to mid-2022. Then, mortgage rates took off, and the 30-year fixed-rate home loan crested at almost 8% in October 2023. Home buyers struggled with affordability as high interest rates eroded their borrowing power. They had few homes to choose from, anyway. Meanwhile, rising rents made…
By ANNE M. PETERSON (AP Sports Writer) Messi Mania returns to Major League Soccer as Lionel Messi embarks on his first full season with Inter Miami. But this year, there’s a twist. Inter Miami signed Luis Suarez in the offseason, reuniting the two close friends. The pair, along with former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, have made Miami THE team to watch heading into the Major League Soccer’s 29th season. “Inter Miami offered me a nice opportunity to dream of winning the club’s first MLS title, to play with big players, who everybody knows, and adapt to my…
For the first time since the preseason, the Colorado women’s basketball team has slipped out of the Top 10 in the Associated Press rankings.
