It’s not the cowboy you miss so much as the ride. Bruce Brown didn’t just finish Nikola Jokic’s sentences. He finished lobs with exclamation points. He spun loose balls into gold, three seconds into two points. On Bruce Brown Day at Ball Arena, a 117-109 Nuggets victory, the most Bruce Brown Moment probably came with 2.9 seconds left in the first half — 2.9 seconds that should’ve been nothing. Jamal Murray swished a free throw that put the Nuggets up 60-55. Brucey B responded by sprinting up the right boundary like Usain Bolt, snatching the relay heave at midcourt, then…

By JOHN WAWROW (AP Sports Writer) BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Logan Eschrich came to Buffalo to witness the snowstorm, and he stayed for the shoveling on Sunday. Once the professional storm chaser saw the Buffalo Bills invite fans to help dig out a snow-filled Highmark Stadium for their delayed playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, now scheduled for Monday, Eschrich couldn’t resist. Sniffling and shivering from the cold, Eschrich detailed the seemingly impossible task he and the estimated 85-person shovel crew faced while being compensated $20 an hour. Winds whipped at 30 mph (48 kph), and snow was falling at…

The coaching carousel is spinning in historic fashion across the NFL. Seven head coaches are out, including two of the winningest in New England’s Bill Belichick and Seattle’s Pete Carroll. The Patriots, through a unique arrangement, have already named a successor in Jerod Mayo. There’s much more action to come, too, after Wild Card weekend finishes and teams begin to focus on top candidates. The Broncos are perfectly happy not to be part of the circus this winter as they had been the past two. In fact, head coach Sean Payton said at the end of his first season that…

Two months after they prompted a lawsuit by voting to block a partly built development in their small mountain hamlet, leaders in Georgetown reversed course Tuesday night. The Georgetown Board of Selectmen, its governing body, voted unanimously to approve a settlement that ends the legal case and allows Bighorn Crossing to keep being built. Just off Interstate 70 and just west of Georgetown Lake, Bighorn Crossing is a mixed-use development that broke ground in 2018 and currently includes seven townhomes, a Wyndham hotel and a brewpub. Five apartment buildings are still to be built there. But that future construction was threatened when, on Nov.…

By RUSS BYNUM (Associated Press) Subfreezing temperatures across much of the U.S. left millions of Americans facing dangerous cold over the weekend as Arctic storms knocked out electricity to tens of thousands in the Northwest, brought snow to the South, and walloped the Northeast with blizzard conditions that forced the postponement of an NFL game. An estimated 95 million people nationwide were under weather warnings or advisories Sunday for wind chills below zero Fahrenheit (minus 17 Celsius). Forecasters said the severe cold was expected to push as far south as northern Texas while the bitter blast could push wind chills…

TORONTO — Sheldon Keefe has coached one of the best groups of star players in the NHL with the Maple Leafs for five seasons. If this game was a title fight between two superstar-laden cores, the ones in the visiting jerseys delivered a knockout. “When (Nathan) MacKinnon’s line gets out there with (Cale) Makar and (Devon) Toews, the caliber of play, like that’s not the NHL,” Keefe said. “That’s another league.” Keefe used his hand as…
