Dear Eric: One of my best friends, who is a lesbian, just met a girl two weeks ago and they’ve already said “I love you” to each other. The other girl seems genuinely lovely, and my friend is very happy, which makes me happy! Not only is this moving very quickly, but the other girl just got out of an engagement in June. It seems clear that she’s still processing this because, when I met her, she spent most of the time talking about all her issues with her ex. Going from being engaged to one person to telling another…

DES MOINES, Iowa — Powerball players will get another chance Monday at a jackpot estimated at over $1 billion, after no one won the big prize Saturday night. No one has matched all six numbers since May 31, allowing the jackpot to swell to $1.1 billion, which would be the fifth-largest prize in the game’s history. Payments would be spread over 30 years, or a winner could choose an immediate lump sum of an estimated $498.4 million, again before taxes. The odds of matching all six numbers are astronomical: 1 in 292.2 million. The likelihood of getting struck by lightning…
By AAMER MADHANI WASHINGTON (AP) — Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Sunday said that the Trump administration will soon expand immigration operations in Chicago, confirming plans for a stepped up presence of federal agents in the nation’s third-largest city as President Donald Trump continues to lash out at Illinois’ Democratic leadership. Noem’s comments come after the DHS last week requested limited logistical support from officials at the Naval Station Great Lakes to support the agency’s anticipated operations. The military installation is about 35 miles north of Chicago. “We’ve already had ongoing operations with ICE in Chicago… but…
A group of Democratic lawmakers announced the breakthrough to their colleagues four days into the recent special session — a tentative agreement struck to rewrite the state’s much-contested artificial intelligence regulations that would put an end to more than a year of protracted debate. The Sunday night deal, reached after days of uncertainty during a session otherwise focused on the state’s budget, would provide a path toward firmer tech oversight. But by early the next afternoon, the framework had collapsed. Major tech companies and a leading business group hadn’t agreed to a key provision that would hold companies liable if…
A man was shot and killed by Aurora police Saturday night during a confrontation that started after he crashed into two cars during an attempted traffic stop, police said. An Aurora officer tried to pull the suspect over for an unspecified traffic violation on East Sixth Avenue near Sable Boulevard just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain said in an evening news briefing. The suspect kept driving and rear-ended another car traveling eastbound on Sixth. After the first crash, the suspect crossed over the median and collided with a westbound vehicle, Chamberlain said. No one in either…
One person died and three were injured Sunday morning after two planes collided midair at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport. A Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 were both trying to land at the Fort Morgan airport when they crashed and caught fire at about 10:40 a.m. Sunday, according to an emailed statement from the Federal Aviation Administration. The agency first said the crash happened at about 12:10 p.m. Sunday, but later corrected the time. One person on board the Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 died at the scene of the crash, and paramedics took a second person to the hospital, according…
Editor’s note: The opinions of the smart, well-read women in my Denver book club mean a lot, and often determine what the rest of us choose to pile onto our bedside tables. So we asked them, and all Denver Post readers, to share their mini-reviews with you. Have any to offer? Email bellis@denverpost.com. – Barbara Ellis “The First Gentleman,” by Bill Clinton and James Patterson (Little, Brown and Company, 2025) THE FIRST GENTLEMAN, by Bill Clinton and James Patterson (Little, Brown) The third collaborative novel by this duo is definitely a page-turner. Crisanta Duran, a former speaker of the Colorado House, is dropping out of the race to become the state’s next attorney general, the candidate announced Sunday morning. “When I began my campaign for Colorado attorney general, it was to take on monopolies of power that have eroded the health, safety, and economic security of Americans,” Duran said in a statement. “Since the launch, the knowledge I’ve gained has been tremendous and there is no doubt that access to democracy must be strengthened.” Duran, a Democrat, did not say in her Sunday statement why she decided to end her campaign, which…
The Rockies are putting up some astonishing numbers this season. They’re on track to lose 116 games, their starters have a 6.62 ERA, and they’ve been outscored by a whopping 353 runs — and counting. But there’s another number that boggles my mind: 29,839. That’s the average paid attendance for games at Coors Field this season. The Rockies are careening toward one of the worst seasons in major league history, yet they rank 16th in attendance. As I write this, the Rockies have won just 21 times in 67 games at Coors. Now consider this: The Tigers rank 17th, averaging…
