One person died Tuesday after a loose tire flew into their car on Interstate 25 in Lone Tree, according to city officials.
Lone Tree police officers responded to the crash on I-25, just north of Ridgegate Parkway, at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, city spokesperson Melissa Gallegos said in a statement.
A tire came loose from a northbound vehicle and bounced across the median, colliding with a vehicle in the southbound lanes, Gallegos said.
The driver on southbound I-25 was killed in the crash, she said. The northbound driver pulled over to the highway’s shoulder and waited until police arrived.
Law enforcement shut down the two leftmost lanes of southbound I-25 in the area at about 3:45 p.m. for the crash cleanup and investigation, according to the city of Lone Tree.
The crash closure caused delays before and during rush hour, officials said. The highway reopened at 6:12 p.m. Tuesday.
