Southbound Interstate 25 was closed Wednesday morning in downtown Denver as crews worked to clear an early morning crash involving construction equipment, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
As of 10 a.m., southbound I-25 was closed between exit 213 for Park Avenue and exit 212C for 20th Street, according to CDOT.
A piece of construction equipment flipped onto its side near the Park Avenue off-ramp, according to reporting from Denver7. The construction contractor is trying to get the equipment back on its wheels to tow it off the highway, CDOT told Denver7.
The crash caused more than an hour of delays for some drivers before 7 a.m., but delays had dropped to roughly 20 minutes in the area by 7:30 a.m., according to CDOT. Now, the highway is fully closed as crews try to reorient the machine and tow it from the road.
Video captured from the sky by Denver7 and CDOT cameras in the area of the flipped construction equipment showed barely moving traffic stretching for miles behind the crash amid Wednesday morning rush hour.
It’s unknown when the highway is expected to fully reopen or if anyone was injured.
