Mickey Moniak had visions of the Rockies playing spoiler — not doormats — in the National League West race. The outfielder almost made his dream come true on Sunday afternoon at Petco Park, hitting two home runs, going 4 for 4, driving in five runs, and stealing two bases. But it wasn’t quite enough. The Padres won 9-6 and took three of four games in the series. The Rockies finished their West Coast road trip 1-6, having been swept by the Dodgers in three games in Los Angeles. The Dodgers (83-65) lead the Padres (82-68) by two games in the…
In an off-the-rails affair in which the Broncos and Colts kept handing each other the game in the fourth quarter, Denver fell to Indianapolis 29-28 in their Week 2 matchup Sunday. Here’s The Denver Post’s report card from the day. OFFENSE — B On one hand, it’s pretty encouraging that the Broncos scored 28 points and hardly looked perfect offensively on Sunday. The most important ingredient here was Bo Nix, who made one visibly poor decision all day — a fourth-quarter interception — in a major Week 2 bounce-back effort. Head coach Sean Payton effectively balanced Denver’s rushing attack from…
It finally happened: Colorado voters unaffiliated with any party now make up a majority of the electorate, after years of flirting with the mark. The latest round of voter registration statistics, published by the Colorado Secretary of State’s office earlier this month, shows 51% of all voters — active, inactive, and pre-registered — opted against affiliating with any political party. That is up from 49.5% of the total in November 2024 and from 42% in November 2020. Unaffiliated voters have long been the largest single bloc in Colorado. A series of reforms in recent years, including automatic voter registration and…

Live updates FINAL | Colts 29, Broncos 28 The Broncos lost an absolute heartbreaker in Indianapolis, falling to the Colts, 29-28, after Spencer Shrader made a 45-yard field goal with no time remaining. It was a complete 180 from mere minutes earlier when Shrader missed a 60-yard field goal. But a 15-yard yard leverage penalty on Eyioma Uwazurike gave Indianapolis another shot at the win. Denver’s offense struggled in the fourth quarter. On its first drive, quarterback Bo Nix threw an interception…
An armed man suspected of shoplifting was fatally shot by Arapahoe County deputies on Sunday, according to the sheriff’s office. When they arrived at the store, the man advanced toward deputies with a knife and a machete, sheriff’s officials said. He has not been publicly identified. One deputy deployed a Taser, which was not effective, according to the agency. When the suspect continued to…

Editor’s note: The opinions of the smart, well-read women in my Denver book club mean a lot, and often determine what the rest of us choose to pile onto our bedside tables. The Denver Broncos may have finished their search for a new stadium site, but it’s just the beginning of a long process to make the team’s new home at Burnham Yard a reality. There will be community negotiations. There will be an environmental cleanup. There will be planning and design. And there will be a whole lot of bureaucracy. The city and the team will try to balance the importance of each of those steps with the looming deadline of the expiration of the Broncos’ lease at Empower Field at Mile High at the end of the 2030 season. The…
HOUSTON — Screens won’t save Deion Sanders’ dreams. Georgia Tech left a bruise. Houston left four or five. But come on, folks. Do you really trust CU Buffs freshman quarterback Julian Lewis in the hands of Pat Shurmur? Would you really let Pencil Pat take your Lamborghini out for a test drive while he leaves the parking brake on? One win in three games calls for drastic measures. Not desperate ones. If Coach Prime is going to change quarterbacks again, he needs to change play-callers, too. Give Byron Leftwich a go. Heck, let ChatGPT have a crack. Because in the very…
Residents near Elati Village in Denver’s Golden Triangle say the city ignored repeated calls regarding unauthorized vehicle encampments before an RV fire early Sept. 11. “For weeks, we received no response from these reports.
