Lakewood law enforcement are investigating a suspicious death after a woman’s body was found in a house fire Friday night in the city’s Morse Park neighborhood. West Metro Fire Rescue crews and Lakewood police responded to the 1700 block of Cody Street at 7:15 p.m. after several people called 911 about a fire at a duplex, the agencies said Saturday. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming out of the front room and a woman’s body when they entered the home. No other injuries were reported and investigators do not believe there is a danger to the public, officials said. The woman’s…
LAS VEGAS — The Nuggets lost to the Timberwolves on Saturday night in their second game of Summer League, falling to 0-2. Denver’s next game is against Toronto on Tuesday at Cox Pavilion, the secondary gymnasium where it has played both of its games so far. Wolves a tougher test The Timberwolves are still a thorn in Denver’s side, even at Summer League. But to be fair, they probably have one of the best rosters in Las Vegas this week, complete with playoff-minted Terrence Shannon Jr. and other second-year talents such as Rob Dillingham and Jaylen Clark. That trio and…
Scientists, politicians and Boulder community members came together this weekend to share their thoughts on why the continued funding of federal research labs is important. Six panelists, including U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, met Saturday to decry the lack of research funding the national government is proposing for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NOAA operates four scientific labs in Boulder. Earlier this year, several NOAA employees in Boulder were fired because of workforce cuts by President Donald Trump’s administration. “Over the course of the last seven months, science and our federal laboratories across the country have been under attack by…
A Bird on the mound is worth five to the Sox? Not. Good. Full disclosure: Grading The Week’s baseball wonks, like most of us, can’t wait for the Rockies to get their 17th almost R-E-B-U-I-L-D — the dirtiest seven letters at 20th & Blake — since 2019 underway. But it’s never going to get rolling, or much as it might, if Jake Bird and Ryan McMahon don’t pick it up. Is Jake Bird cooked? — D. Bird’s a good dude, and relief pitching is notoriously volatile, especially at Coors Field. But brother, he’s picked a cruddy time (to put it…

LAS VEGAS — Red Velvet entered DaRon Holmes II’s life at the perfect time, or so he thought. She was a goldendoodle puppy, her fur a shade of auburn that reminded Holmes of his mother’s baking. A culinary arts teacher by day, Tomika Holmes also sculpts and sells extravagant cakes as a side hustle. DaRon grew up on her red velvet. He hasn’t exactly inherited her talent for gastronomy — “he’s a good DoorDasher,” his dad wisecracked — but Holmes figured if he couldn’t recreate the cake on his own, at least he could name his new therapy dog after…
LAS VEGAS — Tamar Bates isn’t afraid to stir the pot within Nuggets nation. He’s not pretending to be someone he’s not. He’s new to Denver, not a lifer. Just because he agreed to a two-way contract with the Nuggets last month doesn’t mean he feels any allegiance to the city’s other sports franchises. Especially the Broncos. “Yeah, that’s cool. But you’re never going to catch me with a Broncos jersey on,” Bates said when asked about his new surroundings. “I’m in Broncos country, but when the Chiefs come to town, you know what colors I’m gonna have on.” Bates,…
Malcolm Roach loved baseball. Not as much as he loved football. But he was convinced his future was on the diamond — not as a diamond in the rough in the NFL. “I played first, catcher and third. It sounds crazy, but I was actually better at baseball. I played travel ball and really enjoyed it,” Roach told The Post. “I was a power hitter.” He still is. He has simply replaced a bat with shoulder pads and a helmet. Roach is a big reason why the Broncos went from being unable to stop a candidate from running for city…
Want to get ahead in politics? Don’t say stupid stuff. Someone tell Douglas County Commissioner George Teal and state Rep. Ron Weinberg, both Republicans. Also watch what you post. Social media for the Democratic candidate for Congressional District 8, Manny Rutinel, featured a Canadian mountain range in place of the Colorado Rockies. Fortunately for him, that gaffe will be a little easier to live down than Teal and Weinberg’s unfortunate comments. Frustrated that his attempt to pass a home rule charter for Douglas County in a special election was going down in flames, Teal accused the opposition of being nefariously…
