One of the mainstays of the Avalanche’s blue line is coming back for three more seasons. Colorado signed defenseman Josh Manson to a two-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season, the team announced on Thursday. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the extension is for $3.95 million per year. The extension is tacked on top of the final year of his previous four-year contract, as Manson is due to make $4.5 million in 2025-26 as part of that original deal, according to Spotrac. Manson was limited to 48 games in 2024-25 due to to injury, but when he’s healthy, the…
By JOHN HANNA, Associated Press The U.S. has closed its southern border again to livestock imports, saying a flesh-eating parasite has moved further north in Mexico than previously reported. Mexico’s president was critical Thursday, suggesting that the U.S. is exaggerating the threat to its beef industry from the parasite, the New World screwworm fly. The female flies lay eggs in wounds on warm-blooded animals, hatching larvae that are unusual among flies for feeding on live flesh and fluids instead of dead material. American officials worry that if the fly reaches Texas, its flesh-eating maggots could cause large economic losses, something…
A 20-acre wildfire burning in a neighborhood north of Buena Vista forced evacuations Thursday afternoon after a grass fire grew out of control, Chaffee County officials said. The Mount View fire was reported in the area of Mountain View Estates and the Morrison Creek subdivision 10 miles northwest of Buena Vista shortly before 1 p.m., sparking evacuations for the entire subdivision off of U.S. 24 near the Arkansas River. County officials sent out pre-evacuation notices to people living in a five-mile radius an hour later and opened the Chaffee County Public Safety Complex in Buena Vista to evacuees. Power lines…
By ERIC TUCKER WASHINGTON (AP) — FBI Director Kash Patel pledged at his confirmation hearing that the bureau would not look backward, but the Trump administration’s fresh scrutiny of the Russia investigation has brought back into focus a years-old inquiry that continues to infuriate the Republican president. The Justice Department appeared to acknowledge in an unusual statement this week the existence of investigations into two central players from that saga, former FBI Director James Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan, amid a new report revisiting a 2017 intelligence community assessment on Russian election interference. That the Russia investigation, which…
Dozens gathered in the doorway of an open hangar at Centennial Airport on Wednesday, watching as a first-of-its-kind electric plane touched down in front of a background of picturesque Colorado mountains and rolled into a press conference. The plane’s quiet hum, sounding more like a fan than the roar of jets taking off further down the tarmac, is one of its boasted benefits, alongside being better for the environment, said Gregory Blatt, a co-founder of Swiss-based aerospace company H55. Blatt said the company is a technology spinoff of Solar Impulse, the first electric airplane to fly around the world. Centennial…
A judge in Denver has thrown out a lawsuit over the city’s new gas station restrictions filed by a convenience store operator in growth mode. District Judge Kandace Gerdes dismissed the lawsuit brought by QuikTrip and Evangeline Pappas, a Chaffee Park property owner under contract to sell to QuikTrip, on July 3. The lawsuit, filed in March, took aim at a Denver measure that bars new gas stations within a quarter mile of existing stations or rail platforms and within 300 feet of certain residential zone districts. The City Council approved the change with a 12-1 vote in February. BusinessDen noted before…
The heart of Wyoming pumps 1,500 gallons of healing water per minute from the world’s largest single mineral hot spring, making it an unrivalled place of healing and peaceful encounter over countless generations. As Indigenous Peoples we have always connected to the power of these healing waters, that we hold sacred, with pools documented long before contact. In the Shoshone language, they are called: bah guewana, smoking waters; in the Arapaho language: xonou’o, where the healing water turns into air, unifying with the ecosystem; and in the Cheyenne language: tsexhoeomotometo mahpe, where the breath of life comes out of the…
Two bears joined crowds of Red Rocks concertgoers arriving for a Russ concert on Tuesday night, putting on their own show as people headed into the amphitheater. The bears were caught on video by Denver7 viewer Jon Amundson, who told the station it was his first time seeing bears at Red Rocks after visiting the venue many times. Red Rocks officials called the sighting “un-bear-lievable” and said the bears were special guests. “As an outdoor venue surrounded by parklands and trails, we host fans of all species year-round,” officials wrote on social media. “Never approach wildlife, and ask for one…
Leaders of Colorado school districts said Wednesday that they may be forced to eliminate jobs within a matter of weeks if the Trump administration doesn’t release roughly $70 million in withheld K-12 funding. Officials from Denver Public Schools, Jeffco Public Schools and the Lake County School District told Gov. Jared Polis during a roundtable discussion that without the pledged money, they will be forced to cut after-school programs and other services for students, as well as jobs that they have already filled for the 2025-26 academic year. “It’s a huge impact when the funding we are planning on doesn’t show…
Fourth in a series previewing the Broncos’ 2025 roster in the weeks leading up to the start of training camp in late July. Previous: Quarterbacks | Running backs | Wide receivers. On the roster (six): Nate Adkins, Evan Engram, Lucas Krull, Caleb Lohner, Caden Prieskorn, Adam Trautman How many on the 53? Four. The Broncos have kept four TEs on the initial 53-man for two straight years under Sean Payton, and that seems unlikely to change in 2025. Engram is of course a lock, and steady veteran Trautman has played over 50% of Denver’s offensive snaps the last couple years. This could…
