Workers at Safeway, Albertsons and King Soopers stores across metro Denver will vote today and Thursday on new contracts with the two supermarket chains, and employees outside the metro area will cast ballots Friday. The votes today and Thursday follow the announcement over the weekend that members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 reached a tentative agreement with Albertsons, Safeway’s parent company. The union ended its strike that started June 15 with a few stores and expanded to 48 of 80 Safeway stores in Colorado. The union announced a tentative, three-year agreement July 3 with King Soopers and…

By Roberta Burkhart, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Many people don’t know it, but men under age 40 are the most likely age group to develop testicular cancer. Just ask Jay Riepenhoff of Upper Arlington, Ohio, who was 29 and still adjusting to life as a new father when he discovered a suspicious lump. He wasn’t thinking cancer. In fact, Riepenhoff got up for work the next morning and forgot all about it. He felt the lump again that night, and thought he’d maybe set an alarm to remind himself to call the doctor the next day. Riepenhoff didn’t feel the first twinge…
By TARA COPP WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has resumed sending some weapons to Ukraine, a week after the Pentagon had directed that some deliveries be paused, U.S. officials said Wednesday. The weapons heading into Ukraine include 155 mm munitions and precision-guided rockets known as GMLRS, two officials told The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity to provide details that had not been announced publicly. It’s unclear exactly when the weapons started moving. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth directed the pause on some shipments last week to allow the Pentagon to assess its weapons stockpiles, in a move that caught the…

For five innings, Fenway Park witnessed a tense pitchers’ duel. Then the 2025 Rockies showed up, and the drama ended. You can guess the result, if not the score. The Red Sox — carried by a rare complete game by Brayan Bello and charged by a three-run homer by former Rockie Trevor Story — blasted their way to a 10-2 victory Tuesday night. The Rockies, continuing their road to baseball infamy, had five hits, struck out 10 times, and tumbled to a 21-71 record. Colorado is 50 games under .500, and it’s not even the All-Star break. The Rockies’ offense…

West Nile virus has been found in Boulder County. Boulder County Public Health confirmed that, last week, mosquitoes trapped on the east side of Niwot tested positive for West Nile. No other testing sites returned positive results. West Nile virus most often causes mild infections, but can, in some cases, become more serious, leading to encephalitis, meningitis, vision loss, paralysis or death. Although the West Nile mosquito numbers are low, any risk of transmission is worth taking precautions, BCPH said. “We’ve seen low numbers of mosquitoes so far, but we expect them to increase as the season goes on,” Marshall…
