Migrants deported from US to Salvadoran prison remain under US control, Salvadoran officials tell UN
By MARK SHERMAN, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — The government of El Salvador has acknowledged to United Nations investigators that the Trump administration maintains control of the Venezuelan men who were deported from the U.S. to a notorious Salvadoran prison, contradicting public statements by officials in both countries. The revelation was contained in court filings Monday by lawyers for more than 100 migrants who are seeking to challenge their deportations to El Salvador’s mega-prison known as the Terrorism Confinement Center, or CECOT. The case is among several challenging President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown. FILE – The exterior of the Terrorist…

Roman Anthony had Austin Gomber yelling at himself. Anthony, the highly-hyped rookie who is the top prospect in baseball, blasted a two-out, two-run, 418-foot no-doubter to center field in the fifth that was the turning point in the series opener on Monday at Fenway Park. The Red Sox rode that homer to a 9-3 win, dropping the Rockies to 21-70 as they remain on pace to surpass the ’24 White Sox as the worst team in modern baseball history. Anthony finished with three hits on the night. He followed his fifth-inning homer with another single in the seventh, after which…

Each week, we offer our opinions on the best that Colorado has to offer for dining, shopping, entertainment, outdoor activities and more. We’ll also let you in on some hidden gems). My pansies are pitiful, the lavender is languishing and the salvia is suffering. And that lovely vine? Vanquished. But it’s only July, so there’s plenty of time left in Colorado’s growing season to purchase more plants to kill. By HOLLY RAMER and AMANDA SWINHART, Associated Press MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — After six 12-hour shifts milking cows, José Molina-Aguilar’s lone day off was hardly relaxing. On April 21, he and seven co-workers were arrested on a Vermont dairy farm in what advocates say was one of the state’s largest-ever immigration raids. “I saw through the window of the house that immigration were already there, inside the farm, and that’s when they detained us,” he said in a recent interview. “I was in the process of asylum, and even with that, they didn’t respect the document that I was still…

Colorado’s first immigration arrest of the second Trump administration came shortly after the president was inaugurated on Jan. 20. Before the inaugural ball kicked off in the nation’s capital, a Honduran man in his late 20s was arrested in Craig. Between when President Donald Trump returned to office in January and June 10, 1,355 people in Colorado have faced administrative arrest by federal immigration authorities, according to data from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that was obtained by a team at the University of California, Berkeley. That’s a nearly 300% increase from the same period in 2024, when 342 people were…
By LAURA UNGAR and JONEL ALECCIA The health of U.S. children has deteriorated over the past 17 years, with kids today more likely to have obesity, chronic diseases and mental health problems like depression, a new study says. Much of what researchers found was already known, but the study paints a comprehensive picture by examining various aspects of children’s physical and mental health at the same time. “The surprising part of the study wasn’t any with any single statistic; it was that there’s 170 indicators, eight data sources, all showing the same thing: a generalized decline in kids’ health,” said Dr. Christopher Forrest, one of…
By TIA GOLDENBERG and MICHELLE L. PRICE, Associated Press TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump might look to take a victory lap on Monday after their recent joint strikes on Iran, hailed by both as an unmitigated success. But as they meet for the third time this year, the outwardly triumphant visit will be dogged by Israel’s 21-month war against Hamas in Gaza and questions over how hard Trump will push for an end to the conflict. Trump has made clear that following the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, he would like to see the Gaza conflict end…
The Nuggets intend to hold Jonas Valanciunas to his NBA contract commitment despite his reported interest in an offer to return to the EuroLeague, a league source confirmed to The Denver Post on Sunday. Denver is set to acquire Valanciunas from the Sacramento Kings in a trade that was agreed on last Tuesday but hasn’t been finalized yet with the league office. On Thursday, a report surfaced out of Europe that Valanciunas was considering a three-year contract offer from the prominent Greek club Panathinaikos. But the 33-year-old Lithuanian center is still under contract through 2027 in the NBA, where the…
