Severe afternoon thunderstorms could bring up to tennis-ball-sized hail and 70 mph winds to Denver, northern Colorado and the Eastern Plains, according to the National Weather Service. That watch includes Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Elbert, Larimer, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington and Weld counties. Most of the thunderstorms that reach Denver will wrap up by midnight, but another wave of weather is expected to arrive Monday afternoon, according to weather service forecasters. By LISA MASCARO, KEVIN FREKING and JOEY CAPPELLETTI WASHINGTON (AP) — Hours before a tumultuous nearing-midnight vote on President Donald Trump’s package of tax breaks, spending cuts and increased deportation money, a Republican senator stood on the chamber floor and implored the plan’s critics, “Read the bill.” After the dramatic 51-49 roll call late Saturday, Senate Democrats did exactly that. Unable to stop the march toward passage of the 940-page bill by Trump’s Fourth of July deadline, the minority party in Congress is using the tools at its disposal to delay and drag out the process. “If Senate Republicans won’t…

The crash closed southbound I-25 from I-70 to 20th Street for over two hours. A passenger on the motorcycle died from their injuries and the driver, Jacob Blackmon was arrested Friday. COLORADO SPRINGS — A few years ago, a new putter gave Thomas Bjorn a new life. For at least two decades, a constant debate has ebbed and flowed across the shores of professional golf over the long putter. In 2013, the USGA announced a ban on “anchoring” — the act of pinning the club against one’s body while putting. But the usage of that longer short-club has persisted, and Bjorn begrudgingly made a switch from a shorter stick, hoping to extend a career that had never seen a major win. There’ve been moments in recent years, though, where it’s felt…
Up 3-0 with 33 minutes to go, it seemed the Colorado Rapids were on the way to a winger renaissance against the New England Revolution on Saturday night. But an epic mental collapse in the second half turned a convincing win — with star midfielder Djordje Mihailovic out with an ankle injury — into a haunting 3-all draw midway through a rollercoaster season. “This is one of those draws that feels like a loss,” Rapids coach Chris Armas said. “But it’s a point on the road, so we’ll take it.” On an otherwise solid night defensively, — goalkeeper Nico Hansen…
The Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance is closing early on Saturday in anticipation of a teen “takeover” event in City Park. A similar event last weekend led to roughly 300 teenagers gathering at The Shops at Northfield, going into businesses and getting into fights, police officials told Denver7. The Denver Police Department is aware of several planned events in metro Denver and is taking steps to respond, Denver7 reported. The Denver Zoo will close at 1 p.m., and anyone who purchased tickets for a later entry can visit in the morning or reschedule their ticket by contacting the zoo’s Guest Care…

By LISA MASCARO, KEVIN FREKING and JOEY CAPPELLETTI WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate is taking a key procedural vote that has dragged on for more than two hours during a rare Saturday evening session as Republicans struggled to advance President Donald Trump’s package of tax breaks, spending cuts and bolstered deportation funds by his July Fourth deadline. The proceedings came to a standstill and Vice President JD Vance arrived at the Capitol to break a potential tie. Tense scenes were playing out in the chamber as senators huddled in negotiations. Several Republican senators were registering their opposition to proceeding to…
The Colorado Avalanche went back to a familiar place for its first selection in the 2025 NHL draft. Colorado selected Francesco Dell’Elce, a defenseman from the University of Massachusetts, with the No. 77 pick in the third round Saturday.
