Major changes are coming to health insurance in Colorado over the next two years, but members of the state’s delegation in Congress are pitching bills that would dampen the impacts of those disruptions to health care. H.R. 1, known as the “Big Beautiful Bill,” will reduce the number of people covered by Medicaid by adding work requirements and making enrollees prove their eligibility more frequently. It will also limit states’ ability to expand the services their Medicaid programs pay for, starting in 2027. The number of uninsured people in Colorado and across the nation will likely start to rise before…

One tweak to the NFL’s dynamic kickoff rule not only spiked the number of returns in Week 1 league-wide, but it might also eventually impact how teams approach the opening coin toss. A touchback now brings the ball out to the offense’s 35-yard line, meaning even one first down ensures that, even if the offense punts, it will have a chance to pin the other team deep in its own territory. Denver coach Sean Payton on Wednesday described it as starting in positive field position rather than neutral. “If you’ve got a team that’s a little more touchback-oriented than put-it-in-play…

Bo Nix couldn’t sit still after one of the worst games of his NFL career on Sunday. “Literally right after the game, or the day after the game,” Broncos QB3 Sam Ehlinger remembered, “he’s like, ‘Gosh, why do I have to wait six days to play again? Can’t we just play again?’” The man “challenges himself to be perfect,” as receiver Courtland Sutton told reporters this week, and perfectionism can come spilling out of Nix in frazzled bursts of frustration. There was a yell as the quarterback took a seat after one interception against the Titans. There were flung hands…

Sean Payton has told the story many times about the first game at Empower Field in September 2001. He was a young assistant for the New York Giants, and the game was played on Monday Night Football, Sept. 10, the night before the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C. The now-Denver head coach had that game on his mind Wednesday, one day after the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group announced Burnham Yard as the preferred site for a stadium they hope to build and be playing in by the 2031 season. “It ages me,” said Payton, 61. He…
