Hundreds of flights headed in and out of Denver International Airport on Sunday were delayed amid afternoon thunderstorms and a ground stop issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA first issued a ground delay just before 3 p.m. Sunday for thunderstorms and wind, according to the federal agency. The delay was upgraded to a full ground stop just after 4 p.m. that lasted until 5:15 p.m., when it reverted to a ground delay, officials said. The Denver ground delay is scheduled through 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the FAA. As of 5:25 p.m. Sunday, flights were seeing average delays…
Denver’s Juneteenth Parade marched through the Five Points neighborhood, kicking off the Juneteenth Music Festival on Sunday, June 15, 2025. Juneteenth celebrates the day African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, two years after the 1863 signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. source
Three dozen protesters were arrested Saturday night in Denver on investigation of charges ranging from blocking streets to resisting arrest, according to the police department. Investigators believe the 36 people arrested were not part of the “No Kings” protests that largely dispersed at about 4 p.m. Saturday, Denver Police Department spokesperson Doug Schepman said in an email on Sunday. An estimated 20,000 Coloradans marched peacefully through downtown Denver on Saturday during at least five different waves of protests, and thousands more joined rallies across the state as part of the national “No Kings” movement. “Those marches and demonstrations were peaceful,”…
Monique Cummings stood outside the Ross Dress for Less on the 16th Street mall, telling two bicycle officers about a confrontation she’d just watched between a shopper and an off-duty Denver police officer who was providing security at the clothing store. The off-duty officer had pinned the Black woman to the ground, Cummings told the cops. She thought he was going to kill her, so she tried to shove him off. A man with a python hanging around his neck — a female snake named Cleo — stood a few feet away with cellphone video to show the two bicycle…
A butterfly flits past the window at the Castlewood Canyon Visitor Center, where dozens of volunteers have gathered to learn about Colorado’s declining butterfly population and how they can do their part to save it. Shiran Hershcovich, a lepidopterist at the Westminster-based Butterfly Pavilion who’s leading the Saturday morning training, ushers the group outside to watch the mourning cloak butterfly as it settles on a blooming tree. It lightly beats its wings until someone shuffles too close, startling it back into the sky. Now, more than ever, scientists are calling for volunteers to help gather data on butterflies so organizations…
On a late winter day in sun-soaked Arizona, Wyatt Rudden labeled himself an ace. It was March 22 of last year, and Rudden started for Cherry Creek in a travel tournament against Valley Vista. An elbow injury cut short his sophomore season, so the then-junior was still looking to establish himself within Colorado’s most successful big-school program. RELATED: Meet the finalists for the inaugural Roy Halladay Award Rudden threw a complete game, one-hit shutout in a 1-0 win, dominating with his fastball-slider combo in a preview of what was to come as the right-hander became a central force in the…
As I write this on a Sunday evening, I know you won’t read it for several weeks. I say this not to demonstrate the lengthy process from pen to newspaper, but rather to illustrate a point: This isn’t a market forecast, hot take, or quick response to something said moments ago. My goal is not to contribute to the daily financial news cycle, but instead to offer something much less common: perspective. Perspective is in increasingly short supply right now. Business news and market commentary is ever focused on urgency. Economic data, breaking news, market volatility, tariffs, politics, rumors, legislation…
Jake Gustafson has a pretty typical hockey origin story. His father grew up in Canada and was a hockey player. After retiring, Jon Gustafson settled in San Jose and built a post-playing career in the sport, rising to Vice President of the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda and one of the largest hockey-focused facilities in the country — Sharks Ice. The younger Gustafson developed as a youth hockey player in San Jose and committed to play at his dad’s alma mater, Colorado College. Then, last month, something happened that, until now, would have signaled the end of his future as a…
Two years ago, the trophy that Golden earned at the state baseball tournament wasn’t welcome on the bus ride home. The Demons had just lost a 1-0 heartbreaker in the Class 4A title round to Severance after the would-be tying run was thrown out at the plate to end the game. So the runner-up trophy was sent back to Golden in the car of head coach Jackie McBroom’s wife instead of on the team bus. “The players did not want that trophy on the bus,” McBroom recalled with a laugh. “We were proud of what we had accomplished, but there…
