Three out of five third-graders in Colorado during the 2022-2023 school year had tooth decay, according to the most recent data from the state health department. Colorado’s finding of a history of tooth decay in 61% of third graders is both in line with the national average and still far too high, said Dr. Karen Foster, a Denver dentist and previous president of the Colorado Dental Association. Residue from most types of food will weaken teeth over time, but good oral hygiene, community water fluoridation and regular dental care can prevent that damage, she said. “Teeth that are kept clean,…
The owner of a Japanese food restaurant along Colfax Avenue will open a new destination directly behind it serving noodles and dumplings. Ma’s Kitchen Dumplings & Noodles will open this summer in the space formerly occupied by Rolling Pin Pizza and before that, Tacos Tequila Whiskey, on 1514 York St. in Denver. The owner of those two spots, Kevin Morrison, said Friday he is selling the restaurant’s assets following the abrupt closure of Rolling Pin Pizza last year; he has since moved to Calgary, Canada, to be with family. Morrison, who founded Tacos Tequila Whiskey in 2013 as a food…
What might the world learn from New Orleans? That is the question posed by the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver’s latest offering, “The Future is Present, The Harbinger is Home.” A detail from Thomas Deaton’s triptych titled “Last Megalopolis.” (Ray Mark Rinaldi, Special to The Denver Post) To understand the show, it helps to know a little background, most importantly that the objects on display are recycled from “Prospect.6” — the sixth and most recent edition of the well-regarded art exhibition held every three years in New Orleans. It also helps to know that the co-curator of “Prospect.6” was Miranda Lash,…
One person was killed and four were injured Sunday morning in a Denver crash on Interstate 25 involving a wrong-way driver, police said. A gray Chrysler van was spotted driving south in the northbound lanes of I-25 at about 2:59 a.m. Sunday near Mead, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol. The van nearly struck a state patrol trooper, who then tried to pull the driver over, agency officials said in the release. Despite the emergency lights, the van failed to stop and fled south on northbound I-25, officials said. The trooper called off the chase because…
Alcaraz produces another major comeback to win French Open final in five-set thriller against Sinner
By JEROME PUGMIRE PARIS — Bad starts in Grand Slam finals are nothing new for Carlos Alcaraz, and each time it’s happened he has won the tournament anyway. But not in such dramatic style as Sunday’s French Open final, however, when the Spaniard rallied from two sets down and saved three match points to beat Jannik Sinner 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (10-2) for his fifth major title in as many finals. It was his second straight French Open title with a comeback, after trailing 2-1 in sets to Alexander Zverev in last year’s final, and a third…
The Mets have the best record in the National League. The Rockies have the worst record in the majors. The talent gap between the two clubs looks like the Grand Canyon. The proof is in the pummeling. The Mets slugged six home runs Sunday afternoon at Coors Field in a 13-5 victory to complete the three-game sweep. Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso each launched two homers. An announced crowd of 40,548 attended New York’s Home Run Derby. The six homers Colorado gave up are tied for the second-most, at home, in franchise history. The Giants mashed seven homers at Coors…
By KEN MORITSUGU BEIJING — U.S.-China trade talks in London this week are expected to take up a series of fresh disputes that have buffeted relations, threatening a fragile truce over tariffs. Both sides agreed in Geneva last month to a 90-day suspension of most of the 100%-plus tariffs they had imposed on each other in an escalating trade war that had sparked fears of recession. Since then, the U.S. and China have exchanged angry words over advanced semiconductors that power artificial intelligence, “rare earths” that are vital to carmakers and other industries, and visas for Chinese students at American…
By DAVID KLEPPER WASHINGTON — Cybersecurity investigators noticed a highly unusual software crash — it was affecting a small number of smartphones belonging to people who worked in government, politics, tech and journalism. The crashes, which began late last year and carried into 2025, were the tipoff to a sophisticated cyberattack that may have allowed hackers to infiltrate a phone without a single click from the user. The attackers left no clues about their identities, but investigators at the cybersecurity firm iVerify noticed that the victims all had something in common: They worked in fields of interest to China’s government…
At a certain point, the Rapids’ obsession with upgrading shots is delaying the inevitable. Either way, the ball does not go into the net. Austin FC proved early that taking the chance when it comes nets positive results. They pounced early on the principle, and it would have been enough. But Rapids forward Rafael Navarro doubled Austin’s lead in the second half. The Rapids lost, 2-0, their seventh loss of the year. The Rapids fell to ninth in the Western Conference (6-7-4), just above the playoff line. Saturday night marked the halfway point of the 34-game regular season. “There’s not…
