By ALEX VEIGA, Associated Press Business Writer LOS ANGELES (AP) — Homeowners eager to sell may have to wait a while before a buyer comes along. As of April, the U.S. housing market had nearly 34% more sellers than buyers shopping for a home, according to an analysis by Redfin. Aside from April 2020, when the pandemic brought the economy and home sales activity to a standstill, there haven’t been this few buyers in the market for a home before, based on records that date back to 2013. The trend is good news for home shoppers — if they can…
The smile crackles through Junior Adams’ retellings of the glory days in Eugene, Ore., of the quarterback who saw the game a move ahead of the headsets on his own Duck sideline. Why is he checking this play? Adams and staff would wonder, watching Bo Nix stroll to the line of scrimmage and scrap the system. Why is he checking this play? “One thing about Bo, man,” said Adams, Oregon’s former co-offensive coordinator, “in the game — the game is slow to him. “It’s like he’s played the game already. And he knows exactly what’s about to happen.” He knew…
Nuggets defensive coordinator Ryan Saunders will not be retained next season under new head coach David Adelman, a source told The Denver Post. The Nuggets are not renewing the contracts of at least four assistant coaches, also including Popeye Jones, Charles Klask and Stephen Graham, a source told The Post, confirming a report by Chris Haynes. All four coached for the 2022-23 team that won the NBA championship — Denver’s first in franchise history. Contracts are set to expire this offseason for the entire coaching staff. Some other assistant coaches are still waiting to hear if their deals will be…
We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of an Arvada idol who quite literally never stopped smiling, whose funny bone was always on full display and who always had a good head on his shoulders. Until this week. A decapitation has shaken this suburban community to the bone. Neighbors are leaving flowers at the gravesite. Someone started a GoFundMe for the impacted family. And a Facebook page dedicated to the victim is blowing up with equal parts sympathy and outrage. A community is mourning, and Taryn Marshall is left staring beside the corpse of Skelly, the beloved —…
Against an unrelenting chorus of heckling, jeering and chanting from protesters gathered at the state Capitol on Thursday, U.S. Reps. Gabe Evans and Lauren Boebert roundly praised President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful” budget bill that both Republicans voted for in the U.S. House last week. “There is a lot of good in this bill, and, unfortunately, that good is being lost because of a lot of the blatant fearmongering that is occurring around this bill,” said Evans, a freshman representing Colorado’s 8th Congressional District. “The truth is this one big, beautiful bill delivers the resources to protect our country, to…
It’s leverage season for defensive linemen across the NFL. The Steelers’ TJ Watt skipped Pittsburgh’s OTAs. The Cowboys’ Micah Parsons has popped in and out of voluntary workouts amid an ugly contract dispute in Dallas. The Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson showed up at Cincinnati’s offseason program just to tell reporters things had gotten “personal” with the Bengals in a fight for an extension. And as the Broncos enter the summer months facing a slew of financial decisions around a top-tier defensive line, one of their most impactful pass-rushers — and contract-extension hopefuls — wasn’t at OTAs on Thursday. DE John Franklin-Myers, entering…
In the days before his death last year, nurses at the Rifle Correctional Center ignored textbook symptoms of a cardiac emergency from the disgraced Denver attorney and businessman Steve Bachar, who had a known history of heart problems, his ex-wife and daughters say. “Had Mr. Bachar been immediately hospitalized, his cardiac emergency would have been detected and his untimely death very likely prevented,” they wrote in a wrongful death lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court against a trio of nurses at the state prison. Bachar, 58, died in the morning hours of March 15, 2024, just four months after he…
A second Arapahoe County resident who was likely exposed to measles on a flight that landed at Denver International Airport has tested positive for the disease, Colorado public health officials said Thursday. The state’s seventh measles case of the year was confirmed in a vaccinated adult who was a passenger on Turkish Airlines flight 201 from Istanbul, which landed at DIA on May 13. An out-of-state passenger on the flight had measles and was at the airport, a hotel shuttle and a nearby Quality Inn and Suites on May 13 and 14, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health…
Jeffco Public Schools’ teachers union said this week that educators have lost confidence in Superintendent Tracy Dorland’s ability to lead Colorado’s second-largest district and are demanding that the Board of Education step in. The Jefferson County Education Association sent a four-page letter to the school board Tuesday outlining numerous grievances against Dorland, ranging from failure to address school safety concerns to making decisions “behind closed doors without explanation.” “Superintendent Dorland’s approach has repeatedly undermined trust, destabilized our schools and diverted valuable time and resources away from classrooms,” the union wrote in the letter. “Her leadership style is fundamentally misaligned with…
WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security is putting more than 500 “sanctuary jurisdictions” across the country on notice that the Trump administration views them as obstructing immigration enforcement as it attempts to increase pressure on communities it believes are standing in the way of the president’s mass deportations agenda. The department on Thursday published a list of the jurisdictions and said each one will receive formal notification that the government has deemed them noncompliant and if they’re believed to be in violation of any federal criminal statutes. The list of “sanctuary jurisdictions” includes Colorado as a whole, plus 41…
