Instant reaction from the Avalanche’s 2-1 OT loss to the Dallas Stars in Game 3 of their first-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series. 1. Passion for the captain: Gabe Landeskog’s return to NHL action for the first time in 1,032 days was as chill-inducing as you’d expect. “Landy” chants rained down on the forward during warmups and in the moments following the opening puck drop. Landeskog wasted no time setting the tone in his opening shift, decking former teammate Mikko Rantanen to the ice 26 seconds into the game, much to the delight of the Ball Arena crowd. The Attitude broadcast…

A city investment proposal that would help bring a 14,500-seat women’s soccer stadium to Denver cleared a key hurdle Wednesday when a skeptical City Council committee advanced the $70 million deal to help move the concept forward. Members of the South Platte River Committee had grilled the team’s owner and Mayor Mike Johnston’s office over the idea earlier this month, saying they felt rushed and worrying about the financial impact of the deal. But Wednesday, the temperature was much cooler as council members asked questions largely about the details of the proposal and ultimately decided to push it through to…

Years after it installed panels for the final time, a Denver politician’s solar firm is bankrupt. EcoMark Solar, which is owned by Alex Valdez, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy April 17. Chapter 7 requires a company to liquidate its assets and hand them over to creditors. Valdez has been a Democratic state representative since 2019 and briefly ran for mayor of Denver in 2023. He founded EcoMark in 2010 and grew it to 150 employees. The company brought in $6.1 million in revenue in 2022 before closing in late October of that year, last week’s bankruptcy paperwork reveals. It was just about closing time, night creeping toward morning in Metairie, La., Terry Malone and the rest of the New Orleans Saints’ contingent preparing to close up their books at the facility after the first round of the 2011 NFL draft. The building had gone into the night wanting Alabama running back Mark Ingram, the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner. Wanting him bad. They figured, sitting at pick No. 24, that they’d never get him, as then-tight ends coach Malone recalled. As names flew off the board, he’d fallen into their lap — but so had defensive end Cameron Jordan.…

ATLANTA (AP) — The pastor of a Georgia megachurch who led a nationwide 40-day “fast” boycott of Target stores over the retail chain’s commitment to diversity initiatives is now calling for that effort to continue as a “full Target boycott.” The Rev. Jamal Bryant said this week that the Minneapolis-based retailer has not met all of the boycott effort’s demands. Among them: Restoring its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion principles and pledging money to Black-owned banks and businesses. Target announced in January that it would phase out a handful of DEI initiatives, including a program designed to help Black…

Gabe Landeskog recently said he’s had to stop thinking about what that first time back on the ice at Ball Arena would feel like. Now, after 1,032 days away, the captain is back. And that return will be a forever memory. Landeskog completed his remarkable comeback Wednesday night for the Avalanche in Game 3 of its opening-round playoff series against the Dallas Stars. The first WWE-style pop for Landeskog came before he even reached the ice. A camera was trained on his emergence from the Avalanche locker room, and a much larger than normal crowd waiting for warmups roared with…

The Boulder Valley School District’s superintendent has called for the dismissal of a sixth-grade math teacher accused of inappropriately touching students. Superintendent Rob Anderson said Tuesday that he was recommending the dismissal of Daniel Greenberg, 56, a teacher at Manhattan Middle School in Boulder. Greenberg, who was on paid administrative leave during the investigation, will be given five days to appeal the superintendent’s dismissal recommendation, Randy Barber, a district spokesperson, said in a statement. And if he doesn’t appeal, “the dismissal will be finalized,” Barber said. Greenberg was initially charged with sexual assault of a child in a position of…

NEW YORK — President Donald Trump’s border czar joined New York City’s mayor on Tuesday to tout new federal charges against 27 people accused of being Tren de Aragua gang members and associates, including a suspect seen in a viral video of heavily armed men inside an Aurora apartment building. The joint announcement is the latest example of the close ties between Mayor Eric Adams and the Trump administration, which recently dropped federal corruption charges against the Democrat so he could better focus on the Republican president’s immigration priorities. Adams is now running for reelection as an independent. Trump, in…
