Metro Denver’s housing market, like a ship caught in the doldrums, has no wind in its sails but neither does it find itself under threat. Buyers purchased 3,636 homes and condos last month, 5.8% fewer than the 3,861 purchased in July and 5.6% fewer than the 3,850 that sold in August a year ago. Sellers pulled back more aggressively, with new listings down 12.5% month-over-month and 8.4% year-over-year. That pushed the inventory of active listings at the end of August down 6.7% to 13,059. Despite the monthly decline, active listings remain up 21.8% from August 2024. “As we enter the…

Forgive some Colorado Avalanche fans if they’re confused by the lack of noise as training camp beckons. It’s been a while since the Avs have had a relatively quiet, “normal” offseason. There’s no Valeri Nichushkin-related drama to dwell on. There aren’t any non-updates about Gabe Landeskog’s knee to parse. There is one important contract situation to resolve, but it’s not quite the same as Landeskog’s 11th-hour deal in 2021 or Mikko Rantanen’s impasse a year ago. There also might be some consternation that Colorado didn’t do more in light of how last season ended, but team president Joe Sakic said…

LITTLETON — Theo Lee was just like any other freshman at Arapahoe High School, sitting in science class. Except most freshmen don’t receive phone calls like the one Lee did in March. The guy on the other line was part of the coaching staff from Kent State, calling to offer Lee his first FBS college scholarship. “I had to run out of class,” Lee said. “I was crying happy tears. It was awesome.” Lee hadn’t yet started a varsity game, and already had his first offer. He made his second start Friday night for the Warriors, and the 6-foot-5, 235-pound…

Class 5A 1. Cherry Creek (3-0) won vs. Millard North (Neb.), 42-0. Brady Vodicka threw three first-quarter TD passes to spark the Bruins, who passed another test against an out-of-state team. Earlier this week, Kyle Freeland called Rafael Devers’ home run admiration “extremely disrespectful.” Kyle, how do you think Rockies’ fans feel? We all love Freeland’s competitive spirit, but his reaction to Devers’ slow trot came across as petty, misplaced and soft. Freeland yelled at Devers to get up the line, leading to an exchange of words that will never show up on a Hallmark card, and a bench-clearing dust-up. Freeland was out of line. It’s that simple. He served up a cookie on the game’s eighth pitch, and Devers turned it into a souvenir. His pimp job was normal by…

Kyle Freeland wasn’t perfect, but he pitched a masterpiece on Friday night in the Rockies’ 3-0 victory over the Padres in front of 30,073 at Coors Field. Just days removed from throwing only eight pitches in his last outing, the Rockies’ fiery veteran left-hander threw eight shutout innings, allowed just two hits, and tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts. Freeland did not walk a batter. Freeland became the first pitcher in franchise history to pitch eight scoreless innings and allow two or fewer hits with 10 or more strikeouts. “Fantastic, fantastic outing,” interim manager Warren Schaeffer said. “It was a…

John Franklin-Myers chuckled, acknowledging the football story he’s never been able to rewrite. He was passed up by most every FBS program coming out of Greenville High in Texas. He was passed up by the Los Angeles Rams in 2019, cut after he’d played Super Bowl snaps the year before as a rookie. He was passed up by the New York Jets in 2024, who traded Franklin-Myers because they couldn’t pay him. History is repeating itself in Franklin-Myers’ second season in Denver. The Broncos haven’t engaged in extension talks with the stalwart defensive end despite signing Courtland Sutton, Zach Allen…

By ANGELA HART, KFF Health News, and DEVI SHASTRI, The Associated Press SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Trump administration is taking its immigration crackdown to the health care safety net, launching Medicaid spending probes in Colorado and at least five other Democratic-led states that provide comprehensive health coverage to poor and disabled immigrants living in the U.S. without permanent legal status.
