By CHRIS MEGERIAN, SEUNG MIN KIM and KONSTANTIN TOROPIN, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday aiming to rebrand the Department of Defense as the Department of War — a long-telegraphed move aimed at projecting American military toughness around the globe. “It’s a much more appropriate name, especially in light of where the world is right now,” Trump said. He said the previous name was “woke.” The order comes as some of Trump’s closest supporters on Capitol Hill proposed legislation that would codify the new name into law, with Congress having the sole power to…
By SAM MEDNICK and SAMY MAGDY, Associated Press TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Associated Press reporting into an Israeli attack on a Gaza Strip hospital that killed 22 people, including five journalists, raises serious questions about Israel’s rationale for the strikes and the way they were carried out. Among those killed was Mariam Dagga, who worked for AP and other news organizations. Israeli forces struck a position well known as a journalists’ gathering point, because — a military official said — they believed a camera on the roof was being used by Hamas to observe troops. The official cited “suspicious…
Keeler: Nuggets, Carmelo Anthony feud is getting old. Time for a truce. Time to retire Melo’s jersey
Can’t we all just Melo out? The feud between Nuggets fans and Carmelo Anthony celebrates its 15th anniversary early next year. Our favorite basketball beef’s growing facial hair now. It’s old enough to enroll in driver’s ed. Time for the Nuggets to steer this narrative back to sanity. Time to retire Anthony’s number. To rip the Band-Aid off. To make peace. To stop pretending he didn’t happen. Anthony is being inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame this weekend. So how come he’s still notably absent from the rafters at Ball Arena? “(It’s) well-deserved. I always thought (Melo) would…

A week ago, the quarterback on the opposing sideline was a difference maker against the Colorado Buffaloes. As CU prepares for a new opponent Saturday, it is once again the quarterback who stands out. The Buffs will host Delaware on Saturday (1:30 p.m., Fox) at Folsom Field, with junior Nick Minicucci leading the Blue Hens. Minicucci didn’t win the starting job out of camp, but when Zach Marker went down with a likely season-ending injury on the second series last week against Delaware State, Minicucci was ready. He completed 28-of-36 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing…
By KONSTANTIN TOROPIN and CHRIS MEGERIAN WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order Friday to rebrand the Department of Defense as the Department of War, his latest effort to project an image of toughness for America’s military. The Republican president can’t formally change the name without legislation, which his administration would request from Congress. In the meantime, Trump will authorize the Pentagon to use “secondary titles” so the department can go by its original name. The plans were disclosed by a White House official, who requested anonymity ahead of the public announcement, and detailed in…
By CHRIS MEGERIAN WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden recently underwent surgery to remove skin cancer lesions, a spokesperson said Thursday, the latest health challenge for the former president. His spokesperson Kelly Scully confirmed the surgery after Inside Edition published video of Biden leaving church in Delaware with a fresh scar on his forehead. She said Biden received Mohs surgery, a procedure used to cut away skin until no evidence of cancer remains. Two years ago, while Biden was in office, he had a lesion removed from his chest. The lesion was basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer.…
Hot, dry weather and wildfire smoke from out-of-state fires will contribute to lower air quality across the Front Range and Denver metro through Friday afternoon, Colorado public health officials said. State officials expect a rise in ozone and fine particulate levels that will be unhealthy for older adults, children and people with heart or lung disease, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The agency issued an action day alert at 4 p.m. Thursday that is set to last until at least 4 p.m. Friday. Communities covered by the alert span urban corridor from Douglas County to…
A single-vehicle rollover south of Boulder took down power lines and closed Colorado 93 this morning. Colorado 93 has reopened in both directions after the crash closed the road Thursday morning. The right lane of northbound Colorado 93 remains closed from El Dorado Springs Drive to Marshall Road, but the left lane is open, according to COTrip.org. The driver was headed southbound around mile marker 15 on Colorado 93 before crashing into a power pole. Colorado State Patrol responded to the area after a 7:05 a.m. call reporting the crash. No one has been sent to the hospital, and power…
By LINDSAY WHITEHURST, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration took the fight over tariffs to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, asking the justices to rule quickly that the president has the power to impose sweeping import taxes under federal law. The government called on the court to reverse an appeals court ruling that found most of President Donald Trump’s tariffs are an illegal use of an emergency powers law. It’s the latest in a series of Trump administration appeals to a Supreme Court he helped shape, and one that is expected to put a centerpiece of the president’s…
