By COREY WILLIAMS It’s tomato season and Lidia is harvesting on farms in California’s Central Valley. She is also anxious. Attention from U.S. Immigration Control and Enforcement could upend her life more than 23 years after she illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border as a teenager. “The worry is they’ll pull you over when you’re driving and ask for your papers,” said Lidia, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition that only her first name be used because of her fears of deportation. “We need to work. We need to feed our families and pay our rent.” As parades and…
Chase Dollander‘s Labor Day start was, well, laborious. The rookie right-hander, viewed by the Rockies as their No. 1 starter of the future, continues to struggle mightily at Coors Field. The Giants scored six runs on Dollander in five innings, cruising to an 8-2 win on Monday afternoon. “It’s just a matter of figuring it out,” said Dollander, adding that he didn’t have a good feel for his curveball. “I’m going to figure it out; there is no question about it.” San Francisco had only five hits off Dollander, but two of them were home runs, and Dollander hurt himself…
Renck: The college football season began with saved timeouts, a fake field goal and a frightening question: Did decisions by Deion Sanders and Jay Norvell deliver losses? Neither team was favored. Both remained competitive — CU until the final minutes, and CSU for three quarters. But pulling off an upset demanded near perfection from the headset. And multiple decisions hurt both teams and left heads shaking. It raises the question: Which coach worries you more after the season-opening losses? Keeler: Having the best quarterback in the stadium will make any coach look like the smartest guy in the room. This was…

The Broncos have their All-Pro returner back healthy just in time for their Sunday season opener. A few days ago, Marvin Mims Jr.’s Week 1 status seemed squarely in doubt, the receiver limping off the practice field in Dove Valley with a few trailing trainers. After Mims missed Friday’s practice while being evaluated for a groin injury, though, he was back in action during warm-ups and positional drills Monday. It’s a dash of good news for the Broncos and Bo Nix, who presently carry a healthy fleet of skill weapons into a Week 1 clash against a Tennessee Titans squad…
Had it happened on another day, Glenn Cadrez figures he would be dead. The former Super Bowl champion Broncos player was driving home from a pizza party after his 14-year-old son Kannon’s Pop Warner game on Aug. 23. He was two miles from his exit around 9:30 p.m. on Interstate 15 in California, when a huge cloud of dust caught his eye in the northbound lanes. Seconds later, a black BMW M4 sailed through a concrete divider, veered into the southbound lanes and smashed into an oncoming car, according to a Los Angeles Times report citing the California Highway Patrol.…
Which is the best wine rack? If there is one thing wine enthusiasts love, it’s having steady access to their favorite wines. There are several rack styles to suit the needs of all wine lovers, from large racks to table-sized stands. Sturdy metal racks can sit in the cellar and keep wine in a cool, dark room for years. Or, if you prefer having it out on display, there are smaller racks to keep a few bottles handy at all times. Freestanding These are large wine racks that don’t need to be mounted to the wall and can hold enough bottles to suit all of your moods. Top freestanding wine…
The Sunday afternoon crowd of 40,264 at Coors Field was lively and engaged in the Cubs-Rockies game. But when the Cubs’ Ian Happ launched a three-run homer to tie the game, 5-5, in the eighth inning, the crowd went Savannah Bananas, greeting Happ with a standing ovation. Outmanned Rockies fans had to wear it. Until Mickey Moniak hit a walk-off triple in the ninth to lift the Rockies to a 6-5 victory, snapping their four-game losing streak and breaking the six-game hex the Cubs held over them. How good did it feel to shut up the Cubs’ faithful and prevent…
Dear Eric: One of my best friends, who is a lesbian, just met a girl two weeks ago and they’ve already said “I love you” to each other. The other girl seems genuinely lovely, and my friend is very happy, which makes me happy! Not only is this moving very quickly, but the other girl just got out of an engagement in June. It seems clear that she’s still processing this because, when I met her, she spent most of the time talking about all her issues with her ex. Going from being engaged to one person to telling another…
