DES MOINES, Iowa — Powerball players will get another chance Monday at a jackpot estimated at over $1 billion, after no one won the big prize Saturday night. No one has matched all six numbers since May 31, allowing the jackpot to swell to $1.1 billion, which would be the fifth-largest prize in the game’s history. Payments would be spread over 30 years, or a winner could choose an immediate lump sum of an estimated $498.4 million, again before taxes. The odds of matching all six numbers are astronomical: 1 in 292.2 million. The likelihood of getting struck by lightning…

By AAMER MADHANI WASHINGTON (AP) — Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Sunday said that the Trump administration will soon expand immigration operations in Chicago, confirming plans for a stepped up presence of federal agents in the nation’s third-largest city as President Donald Trump continues to lash out at Illinois’ Democratic leadership. Noem’s comments come after the DHS last week requested limited logistical support from officials at the Naval Station Great Lakes to support the agency’s anticipated operations. The military installation is about 35 miles north of Chicago. “We’ve already had ongoing operations with ICE in Chicago… but…

A group of Democratic lawmakers announced the breakthrough to their colleagues four days into the recent special session — a tentative agreement struck to rewrite the state’s much-contested artificial intelligence regulations that would put an end to more than a year of protracted debate. The Sunday night deal, reached after days of uncertainty during a session otherwise focused on the state’s budget, would provide a path toward firmer tech oversight. But by early the next afternoon, the framework had collapsed. Major tech companies and a leading business group hadn’t agreed to a key provision that would hold companies liable if…

Editor’s note: The opinions of the smart, well-read women in my Denver book club mean a lot, and often determine what the rest of us choose to pile onto our bedside tables. Crisanta Duran, a former speaker of the Colorado House, is dropping out of the race to become the state’s next attorney general, the candidate announced Sunday morning. “When I began my campaign for Colorado attorney general, it was to take on monopolies of power that have eroded the health, safety, and economic security of Americans,” Duran said in a statement. “Since the launch, the knowledge I’ve gained has been tremendous and there is no doubt that access to democracy must be strengthened.” Duran, a Democrat, did not say in her Sunday statement why she decided to end her campaign, which…

The Rockies are putting up some astonishing numbers this season. They’re on track to lose 116 games, their starters have a 6.62 ERA, and they’ve been outscored by a whopping 353 runs — and counting. But there’s another number that boggles my mind: 29,839. That’s the average paid attendance for games at Coors Field this season. The Rockies are careening toward one of the worst seasons in major league history, yet they rank 16th in attendance. As I write this, the Rockies have won just 21 times in 67 games at Coors. Now consider this: The Tigers rank 17th, averaging…

Throughout the offseason, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders and numerous players praised the efforts of the revamped strength and conditioning program. Hired last winter, Andreu Swasey is leading the Buffs’ strength and conditioning team, and his workouts were reportedly difficult but produced tremendous results, including several players transforming their bodies. In the first test of that work on Friday night, though, the results weren’t what the Buffs had hoped for coming into the season. Georgia Tech was the more physically prepared team and left Folsom Field with a 27-20 victory. With the game tied at 20, Georgia Tech took over…
