A newly renovated industrial building in Denver’s Central Park neighborhood is now in the hands of a lender. Bridge Investment Group took ownership of the 140,000-square-foot building at 8000 E. 40th Ave. and a parking lot across the street through a foreclosure auction on Thursday. The property had been owned by Oregon-based developer ScanlanKemperBard Cos., which bought the property in March 2022 and took out a loan from Bridge for up to $23.75 million at the same time. As of this spring, when Bridge initiated the foreclosure process, SKB owed $18 million in principal. Speaking to BusinessDen in April, SKB President…

NEW ORLEANS — The engine protested a bit starting up. A spark plug sputtered. The brakes squeaked on the way out of the driveway. As far as final tune-ups go, the Broncos starters didn’t put together the smoothest outing Saturday in New Orleans on either side of the ball in an eventual 28-19 Denver win. Vance Joseph’s defense gave up a pair of field goals to New Orleans, bringing their preseason total to a touchdown and two field goals allowed on four total possessions. Sean Payton’s offense punted, stalled out in field goal range and was going nowhere again on…

NEW ORLEANS — John Franklin-Myers may not be thrilled, but he’s ready for regular-season football. The Broncos defensive tackle is entering the final year of a two-year, $15 million contract he signed after getting traded to Denver last spring. There’s been little sign of movement toward a deal, and sources told The Denver Post the sides did not negotiate this summer. That stands in contrast to veterans Courtland Sutton (four years, $92 million) and Zach Allen (four years, $102 million), who landed major long-term agreements. Fourth-year outside linebacker Nik Bonitto doesn’t have a new deal yet, but he said recently…

By BYRON TAU, The Associated Press COLORADO SPRINGS — Administrators at the University of Colorado’s campus in Colorado Springs thought they stood a solid chance of dodging the Trump administration’s offensive on higher education. Located on a picturesque bluff with a stunning view of Pikes Peak, the school is far removed from the Ivy League colleges that have drawn President Donald Trump’s ire. Most of its students are commuters, getting degrees while holding down full-time jobs. Students and faculty alike describe the university, which is in a conservative part of a blue state, as politically subdued, if not apolitical. That…

The ghosts of Nolan Arenado are almost gone. Almost. When the Rockies released left-handed starter Austin Gomber on Friday, the club severed ties with the last remaining player acquired in the infamous 2021 trade that sent the disenchanted Arenado — and $51 million — to the Cardinals. Arenado, the 10-time Gold Glove third baseman and eight-time All-Star, was the centerpiece of what’s widely viewed as one of the worst trades in Colorado sports history. I know many fans who turned their back on the Rockies because of the trade and have never returned. Gomber nearly lasted five full seasons with…

As recently as Wednesday, Broncos special teams coach Darren Rizzi made things abundantly clear: Denver’s staff still hadn’t settled on its final 53-man roster. “There’s still some meat on the bone there, and there’s some guys that still have some work to do,” Rizzi said. “And they can show some stuff in this last game.” The preseason’s now come to an end, though, with Denver’s 28-19 win over the Saints on Saturday in New Orleans. A few positional battles have resolved themselves with roster movement — like this week’s trade of receiver Devaughn Vele — while others are still coming…

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Andrew McCutchen and Jared Triolo hit two-run home runs an inning apart to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night. Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle spoiled the shutout with a ninth-inning home run. McCutchen opened the scoring in the second with his 12th home run of the season, pulling it just inside the left-field foul pole. Triolo hit his home run an inning later to make it 4-0. He added a triple in the fourth and scored on Bryan Reynolds’s double. The 2-for-4 game lifted his batting average above…

Today is Saturday, Aug. 23, the 235th day of 2025. There are 130 days left in the year. Today in history: On Aug 23, 1927, amid worldwide protests, Italian-born anarchists Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were executed in Boston for the murders of two men during a 1920 robbery. (On the 50th anniversary of their executions, then-Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis issued a proclamation that Sacco and Vanzetti had been unfairly tried and convicted.) Also on this date: In 1305, Scottish rebel leader Sir William Wallace was executed by the English for treason. In 1775, Britain’s King George III proclaimed the…

Go East, Young Rockies. Or south. Or southeast. Whatever. Just get the living daylights out of the National League West. Move the heck out of the same division as the Dodgers, Giants and Padres. It’s extremely rare that MLB commissioner Rob Manfred says something that the baseball guys on the Grading The Week (GTW) staff agree with. It’s even more rare when Manfred gives us a snippet of actual, genuine hope to cling to. But the commish, in a passing as rare as Edmond Halley’s comet, somehow managed to give us both at the start of the week. Manfred said…

FORT COLLINS — Jaxxon Warren went up for a JuCo Hail Mary and came down with an FBS future. In 2023, Warren was playing in the Champs Heart of Texas Bowl to conclude his first season at Navarro College. A quarterback in high school and at the start of his college career, Warren switched to tight end early in the season for Navarro — a leap of faith that paved his way to arriving at CSU last year. “There were like five seconds on the clock in the first half, and we just decided to throw it up to Jaxxon…
