By ERIC OLSON (AP Sports Writer) Images of students pouring out of the stands at the final buzzer to celebrate with players on the home team following a big win have long been part of college basketball. Usually, no one gets hurt. But court storming and the safety risks associated with it have received more scrutiny in the week since Iowa star Caitlin Clark collided with an Ohio State fan after the Buckeyes’ upset of the Hawkeyes in Columbus. There have been at least six more instances since the Clark incident and ESPN analyst Jay Bilas on Saturday called for…

Rufo’s destructive work reaches grade-schoolers Re: “Rufo’s CU visit and the meritocracy myth” Jan. 21 editorial The editorial board was right to call out culture warrior Christopher Rufo for hypocrisy. His claim that conservatives aren’t opposed to diversity as long as academic hires are qualified is laughable. The racist overtones of the push to remove Harvard President Claudine Gay were clear. But the board shouldn’t stop there. They should examine Rufo’s destructive work at the K-12 school level, where his baseless claims that critical race theory was being taught in U.S. schools played a role in the development of Hillsdale…

Kris Bryant’s first two seasons in Colorado have been underwhelming. That’s putting it kindly. Hampered by injuries, Bryant has not come close to sniffing the MVP form he showed in 2016 when he slashed .292/.385/.554, hit 39 homers and helped lead the Cubs to their first World Series title since 1908. But Bryant, who signed a Rockies franchise-record free-agent deal for seven years, $182 million in the spring of 2022, believes he can still be the player that the Rockies planned for him to be — and need him to be — if they are going to rebound from a…

One of the memorable high points of the Nuggets’ championship defense so far was their shocking, shorthanded win at the star-studded Clippers in November. They were almost victims of an inverted version Saturday. Without their three best players, the Philadelphia 76ers took the Nuggets to the brink of a season-low point before Denver scrapped out a 111-105 victory in its first home game in two weeks. “It was nice to have an arena cheering for us, for once,” Jamal Murray said. Tied at 96 with 4:30 remaining, the Nuggets (32-15) scored seven unanswered points to claim the lead for good.…
