The embattled leader of Colorado’s House Republicans was nearly ousted Monday by right-wing members of his own caucus, throwing his leadership into doubt and reigniting lingering ideological tensions among Republicans. The vote — an even 9-9 split to keep Rep. Mike Lynch as minority leader — came five days after Lynch’s 2022 arrest for drunken driving was first made public in a story by The Denver Post. The tie was the bare minimum that Lynch needed to maintain his position in leadership. Rep. Stephanie Luck, a member of the right-wing bloc that opposed Lynch staying on as leader, was not…
Hiking is a great way to enjoy winter in Colorado, whether you opt for a trek through the snow or choose a trail that remains dry for much of the season. There are, however, a few additional steps to take in cold weather to help ensure that you enjoy a safe and fun adventure. Basic rules for winter hiking It’s just as important to stay on the trail in winter as it is in summer. Sticking to the trail helps protect native plants and prevents erosion. This means you should be prepared to walk on snow, ice and mud, not…
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Nuggets did not visit the White House to honor their 2023 NBA championship while in the nation’s capital because of scheduling issues on the White House’s end, a Nuggets spokesperson told The Denver Post. The team was in communication with White House officials, trying to arrange for a ceremonial meeting with President Joe Biden, but the timing ultimately didn’t work out. As recently as two weeks ago, the Nuggets were optimistic there would be a White House visit, a team spokesperson said. Championship-winning teams in major American sports leagues traditionally visit the White House when they…
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Just because the game was over didn’t mean the spectacle was. As Nikola Jokic lingered, so did fans. Wizards fans. A portion of the crowd flocked toward the corner of the Capital One Arena lower bowl overlooking the visitors’ court-entry tunnel, everyone angling for a closer look at the two-time MVP center who had just scored a season-high 42 points in Denver’s 113-104 win. When Jokic meandered toward the tunnel, the fans gave him a round of applause to send him off. It was everything Jokic disdains, of course. The phone cameras flashing. The attention directed toward…
