Rabbits with tentacles in northern Colorado. There’s not really a better way to sum up recent photos and headlines about cottontail rabbits spotted around Fort Collins with long, dangling growths on their faces. But as concerning as they appear, the virus that causes the dark, wart-like growths is relatively common and usually not anything to worry about, Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials said Wednesday. The growths are caused by rabbit or shope papilloma virus, which is spread between cottontail rabbits through direct contact or biting insects such as fleas and ticks, Parks and Wildlife spokesperson Kara Van Hoose said. Shope…
Broncos Ring of Fame wide receiver Lionel Taylor, the franchise’s first star after its inception in 1960, has died at 89 years old, the team announced Wednesday. A cause of death was not disclosed. Taylor, who finished his career in 1966 as Denver’s then-leader in catches (543), receiving yards (6,872) and touchdown receptions (44), has long been a key piece of the foundation of the city’s sports identity. He came to the Broncos from the Chicago Bears in 1960, as the franchise began play in the AFL. In establishing himself as a four-time first-team All-Pro in seven seasons, he became…
Trump-Putin summit on Ukraine is latest chapter in Alaska’s long history — and tension — with Russia
By MARK THIESSEN and GENE JOHNSON ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — When U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin meet in Alaska on Friday, it will be the latest chapter in the 49th state’s long history with Russia — and with international tensions. Siberian fur traders arrived from across the Bering Sea in the first part of the 18th century, and the imprint of Russian settlement in Alaska remains. The oldest building in Anchorage is a Russian Orthodox church, and many Alaska Natives have Russian surnames. FILE – New Archangel Russian Dancers perform as part of the Alaska Day…
By ADITHI RAMAKRISHNAN NEW YORK (AP) — After a summer of vacations and late nights, it’s time to set those back-to-school alarms. A good night’s sleep helps students stay focused and attentive in class. Experts say it’s worth easing kids back into a routine with the start of a new school year. “We don’t say ‘ get good sleep ’ just because,” said pediatrician Dr. Gabrina Dixon with Children’s National Hospital. “It really helps kids learn and it helps them function throughout the day.” The amount of sleep kids need changes as they age. Preschoolers should get up to 13…
By MARK KENNEDY NEW YORK (AP) — Charlie Brown and Snoopy go to sleepaway camp in a new, bittersweet Apple TV+ special fueled by a pair of Emmy Award-nominated songwriters that’s being billed as the first “Peanuts” musical in 35 years. “My motivation has always been to preserve and enhance my dad’s legacy,” says co-writer Craig Schulz, a son of the iconic comic strip “Peanuts” creator Charles. S. Schulz. “So it’s really an honor to get to play with these kids.” “Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical,” which premieres Friday, features five songs — two by Jeff Morrow, Alan Zachary and…
Quency Wiggins came to Colorado a year ago with high hopes. After all, he was a former four-star recruit who spent his first two seasons of college football with one of the best programs in the country, LSU. The 2024 season didn’t pan out like he hoped, but Wiggins has come into this year a different man. “I woke up the first day of camp, I walked in and I just completely felt like a different player,” the 6-foot-5, 255-pound junior defensive end said. “Energy, my attention to detail, just showing up every day, just ready to work. Just everything.”…
By ANNIE MA WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is ordering a wide-ranging review of the Smithsonian museums and exhibitions ahead of the country’s 250th birthday with a goal of aligning the institution’s content with President Donald Trump’s interpretation of American history. In a letter sent Tuesday to Smithsonian Institution Secretary Lonnie Bunch III, the White House laid out in detail the steps it expects the organization to take as part of the announced review. The examination will look at all public-facing content, such as social media, exhibition text and educational materials, to “assess tone, historical framing, and alignment with…
The eyes, Kris Abrams-Draine says, are the keys to a receiver’s soul. He is 23 years old and has started exactly one NFL game. He walks with a cheeky grin, the kind undisturbed by wrinkles. But he moves in the secondary with wisdom beyond his years, because there’s been a lot packed into that 23. Abrams-Draine had his first son at 17 years old, and switched from quarterback to receiver to cornerback in his time at Mizzou. He’s shifted abruptly from mostly press coverage in college to off-man in Denver, in a different scheme. Yet he keeps showing up when called…

Attendance Did not practice: Injured reserve — OLB Johnny Walker Jr., DE Matt Henningsen. Out — ILB Drew Sanders (foot), OLB Nik Bonitto (foot), CB Reese Taylor (unknown), TE Nate Adkins (unknown). Bonitto was in sweats Tuesday and didn’t participate after coming up a bit gimpy early in the Broncos’ preseason game in Santa Clara on Saturday. Head coach Sean Payton clarified the star pass-rusher is dealing with “something in his foot,” but said Denver’s expecting Bonitto back in pads Wednesday. Taylor and Adkins, meanwhile, weren’t seen at all after missing Saturday’s game. Receiver A.T. Perry, meanwhile, was activated off the…
