As people in the Gaza Strip starve, some of Israel’s supporters and global allies, including President Donald Trump, are beginning to change their views on the humanitarian crisis in the region. Michelle Cottle, a national politics writer for New York Times Opinion, joins columnists Lydia Polgreen and David French to discuss this shift and Israel’s fundamental mistake. The transcript has been lightly edited for length and clarity. — Cottle: We’re recording this on Thursday and we are going to talk about Gaza, where things have reached a new level of horror. Recently, a U.N.-affiliated group stated that the worst-case scenario…
Attendance Did not practice: Physically Unable to Perform list — WR A.T. Perry (foot/ankle). Out — ILB Alex Singleton (thumb), ILB Drew Sanders (foot), ILB Dre Greenlaw (quad), OLB Que Robinson (knee), FB Michael Burton (unknown). Camp-goers in Dove Valley got a neat little surprise when Singleton trotted out of the locker room Saturday morning alongside new moneyman Zach Allen, the injured linebacker dressed in pads just a few days after breaking his thumb. He didn’t practice during team period, but Payton made clear he’ll be back soon. It’s likely, then, that the Broncos have their starting ILB duo back…
Today is Sunday, Aug. 3, the 215th day of 2025. There are 150 days left in the year. Today in history: On August 3, 2019, a gunman opened fire at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, resulting in the deaths of 23 people; after surrendering, the gunman told detectives he targeted “Mexicans” and had outlined the plot in a screed published online shortly before the attack. Also on this date: In 1492, Christopher Columbus set sail from Palos, Spain, on his first voyage that took him to the present-day Americas. In 1852, in America’s first intercollegiate sporting event, Harvard…
Older Coloradans have mostly recovered from a pandemic-era increase in death rates, but middle-aged people continue to die younger than expected, mostly from overdoses. In the long run, everyone dies, but state health officials watch how death rates compare to what they’d expect based on the size of the population and the mix of ages within it. If younger people are dying in higher numbers than normal, it tells them that something has gone wrong. Death rates shot up in 2020 and 2021 as COVID-19 and an increasingly dangerous illicit drug supply took out Coloradans at rates not seen in…
Ryan McMahon played 1,010 regular-season games, came to the plate 3,824 times, and hit 140 home runs wearing a Rockies uniform. The team drafted him in 2013 out of Mater Dei High School in Southern California when he was 18. He spent parts of 13 seasons with the organization. On July 25, he was traded to the Yankees. Overnight, “RyMac” went from the worst team in baseball to the most storied franchise in the history of the game. He went from a team that must go 35-19 just to avoid its third straight 100-loss season to a team with World…
Here are a few August events you might regret missing: Telluride Jazz Festival The annual fest returns to the idyllic community Aug. 8-10. But the rest of the schedule is rich with national and Colorado-based performers, too. Tickets range from $90 for single-day passes up to $645 VIP experiences for the entire…

Zach Allen spent the past year-plus cementing himself as a central force on Denver’s talented defense. Now he’ll be paid like one of the game’s best.
