Broncos hire ex-Patriots scout Camren Williams in personnel role as restructuring begins

The Broncos’ winter of staff attrition, finally, is turning over to a spring of staff addition.

Denver is hiring Camren Williams, the New England Patriots’ director of college scouting, as the organization’s co-director of player personnel, a source confirmed to The Denver Post on Tuesday afternoon. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the hire.

It’s a step up the rung for Williams, a rising figure in NFL ranks who climbed quickly through the Patriots scouting department after being hired as an assistant in 2016. He joined the club not long after a four-year career as a linebacker at Ohio State.

The addition is the first public domino to fall in Denver’s front-office reorganization, as the club is going through a reshuffling in its personnel department, a source told The Post. Holes have littered the Broncos’ staff for much of the offseason — kicking off with a quality-control coach overhaul and continuing as multiple members of the front office have been hired away.

First, the Broncos lost assistant general manager Darren Mougey, who took the reins as the New York Jets general manager. Then came the departures of senior personnel executive David Shaw, and Mark Thewes, and, most recently, longtime director of college scouting Brian Stark. Williams’ arrival is the start of a series of promotions and additions, which will likely be finalized within a week, a source told The Post.

Current director of player personnel Reed Burckhardt is among the internal candidates for a promotion. He is a longtime ally of general manager George Paton, dating back to his time with the Minnesota Vikings. So, too, is current vice president of player personnel Cody Rager, who’s worked with head coach Sean Payton since New Orleans.
