A Colorado State Patrol trooper was injured Wednesday after his patrol car was hit by a suspected drunken driver while the trooper was investigating a crash.
Trooper Tyler Atkins was in his vehicle at Colorado 115 and Little Turkey Creek Road in El Paso County at around 3:44 p.m. when the other driver crashed into him, CSP officials said in a news release.
He was airlifted to the hospital and later released, according to the state patrol. The other driver remained at the scene and was also taken to the hospital.
The intersection is closed as the state patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit investigates the crash.
This is the 11th CSP vehicle struck by other drivers this year and the second this month, according to the agency.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
