Woman killed in crash that snarled traffic on northbound I-25 in Lone Tree

A woman died Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 25 in Lone Tree that backed up traffic for hours amid the morning commute, according to law enforcement.

Two lanes of northbound I-25 were closed at exit 192 for RidgeGate Parkway in Lone Tree for hours after the fatal crash, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

All lanes of the northbound highway had reopened by 10:25 a.m., Lone Tree spokesperson Melissa Gallegos said.

The lane closures caused roughly six miles of standstill traffic on the highway during Tuesday morning rush hour, according to CDOT. Cameras in the area showed traffic stretching back more than two exits, past Castle Pines and Happy Canyon Road.

The woman driving the crashed car died in the incident, Gallegos said. A child who was in the vehicle during the crash was not injured.

Additional information about the crash, including the cause, was not immediately available on Tuesday.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
