The Colorado Rapids are replenishing their back line. The club signed U.S. Youth National Team center back Noah Cobb on loan through the end of the 2025 season with a purchase option, the club announced Friday evening. Colorado will pay $100,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) initially, then can decide on an undisclosed purchase option amount at the end of the loan period. Cobb, 20, is the Rapids’ first acquisition of the secondary transfer window, which began Thursday. Last week, the club transferred its best center back, Chidozie Awaziem, to one of his many former clubs, FC Nantes. Since then,…
The most frigid front that Bo Nix will see all winter might just be the orange storm barreling down on him this July. Friday in Dove Valley marked the first full day of Broncos training camp, and thereby the first day hosting (limited) fans — a sea of blue and Nix jerseys eagerly peering from the south bleachers for their first glimpse of this new-look Denver roster. But they didn’t see anything different from what they would’ve seen during Wednesday and Thursday’s acclimation period. Or June’s minicamp. Or May’s OTAs. This Denver pass rush has made it near-impossible for any…
A Lafayette adult died of West Nile virus in what officials say is the first such death in Colorado this year. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and Boulder County Public Health confirmed the death and its cause. The press release did not specify when the person died. CDPHE has confirmed nine human cases of West Nile in eight Colorado counties, including Adams, Boulder, Broomfield, Douglas, La Plata, Larimer, Pueblo and Weld counties. The Weld County case was confirmed by its health department on Friday, and two Adams County cases were confirmed on July 17. Larimer County announced in…
King Soopers will close a store in Centennial next month. The grocery chain’s last day at 5050 E. Arapahoe Road will be Aug. 16, according to a company spokeswoman, adding employees are being given the opportunity to transfer to other stores. The move is a part of a larger plan by its Cincinnati-based parent company Kroger. Last month, the company said it would close 60 stores over the next 18 months. There’s another King Soopers 1.25 miles north of the one that will close. No other Colorado closures have been announced. In Denver, a King Soopers is under construction at…
Some of the biggest personalities and best leaders on the 2024 Colorado football team played on the back end of the defense. It won’t be easy to replace the production or leadership of Travis Hunter, Shilo Sanders and Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig – who are all now in the NFL – but the 2025 Buffaloes have some intriguing pieces in place to make the secondary a strength once again. Leading up to preseason camp, which opens Monday, BuffZone.com will preview each position group for the CU football team and in this installment, we look at the defensive backs. While the big three…
By John O’Connor and Sarah Raza, Associated Press, The Associated Press SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture will move thousands of employees out of the nation’s capital in a reorganization the agency says will put them closer to customers while saving money, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said Thursday. Around 2,600 workers — more than half the Washington, D.C. workforce — will be moved to five hubs, including one in Fort Collins, Rollins said. The union representing federal workers immediately criticized the plan as a ploy to cut federal jobs, pointing out that some 95% of the department’s employees…
A day after the Broncos began training camp with full attendance and “one of the cleaner report dates that I can recall relative to (health),” according to head coach Sean Payton, Thursday featured the first player absence. Right tackle Mike McGlinchey left practice after stretching and didn’t return. An exact reason for his absence wasn’t clear, as Payton didn’t speak with reporters after practice. Whether McGlinchey’s back Friday or the absence lingers, Thursday highlighted two truths about Denver’s offensive line. First, that the group has so much continuity and history together, it can likely get ready for the regular season…
Dear Eric: My wife of 50 years told me that she no longer wants to live with me. I am currently living in our summer home with no friends or social contacts/networks. She has no interest in reconciling. We didn’t fight or argue, and I am at a loss as to what triggered her declaration. This has taken me totally by surprise. I thought we had a good marriage, with occasional ups and downs. There are no abuse, addiction or infidelity issues. I worked my whole life and am now retired. As soon as we had children, she was able…
