Six rural Colorado hospitals could close in the coming years if Congress adopts the more than $600 million in Medicaid cuts currently included in the Republican tax bill, according to projections commissioned by Senate Democrats. The listed hospitals are spread across the state, including three on the Western Slope, one in the San Luis Valley and two on the Eastern Plains. The report is based on one version of an evolving bill, so the final result could cause financial distress for fewer, or more, Colorado hospitals than anticipated. Other types of providers, including community mental health centers and safety net…

June 18:Andrew Crawford during CU men’s basketball practice on June 18, 2025 in preparation for their trip to Australia(Cliff Grassmick/Staff Photographer) Even with spots still to be finalized, the roster construction for the 2025-26 Colorado men’s basketball team isn’t difficult to break down. There are the four returning rotation players, all of whom, to one degree or another, showed signs of improvement and encouragement down the stretch of what otherwise was a forgettable 21-loss season for the Buffaloes. That group includes Felix Kossaras, Elijah Malone, Sebastian Rancik and Bangot Dak, who is sidelined for the summer due to an injury…

A 29-year-old Lone Tree man who pleaded guilty to child sex exploitation and distributing images of child sexual abuse was sentenced to four years in prison Friday. Daryl Henry Joe Jr. was sentenced by Douglas County District Judge Victoria Klingensmith to four years in the Colorado Department of Corrections and 10 years of probation, court records show. Joe was arrested in October 2023 after a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led Lone Tree police to investigate him. Detectives found hundreds of thousands of images of child sexual abuse, and he later admitted to possessing and…

Among the riddles facing the Rockies is how to find a winning formula at Coors Field. Because, right now, it’s a home-field disadvantage. The Rockies’ 5-3 loss to Arizona on a 98-degree, desert-like Saturday night in LoDo dropped their home record to 7-29, the worst home record in the majors and their worst start through 36 home games in franchise history. Colorado has been outscored 277-150 (minus-127) at home this year, the worst run differential through the first 36 home games of a season since the 1897 St. Louis Browns (minus-135), per Opta STATS. Geraldo Perdomo’s two-run homer in the…

LOVELAND — Angry? Silly Bills. You didn’t make Marvin Mims Jr. angry. You made him hungry. “We go to Buffalo. We go up 7-0, we’re feeling good. And then at the end of the game, we get our butts whooped and the season’s over,” Mims, the Broncos’ third-year wide receiver, told me Saturday afternoon after hosting the first of two weekend youth football camps along the Front Range at Ray Patterson Field. “I don’t want to say it’s a terrible feeling. But you’re kind of sitting there (and) part of me is like, because I’m young, and I’m going to…

By ELLEN KNICKMEYER WASHINGTON (AP) — An American-led group has asked the Trump administration to step in with an initial $30 million so it can continue its much scrutinized and Israeli-backed aid distribution in Gaza, according to three U.S. officials and the organization’s application for the money. That application, obtained by The Associated Press, also offers some of the first financial details about the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and its work in the territory. That includes a projection of a $150 million monthly budget once the group’s current aid sites fully gear up — an amount equal to $1.8 billion a…

Word to the wise, Shedeur Sanders: If you’re not careful, the next ticket you get will be a one-way flight out of Cleveland. Fifth-round quarterbacks, by and large, aren’t legendary. They’re disposable. You can count on one hand the NFL QBs drafted in the fifth round who’ve had a serious impact in the NFL since the 1970 merger. Mark Brunell and Steve Grogan are at the head of the class. But it’s a small room. Dan Orlovsky? 2-10 as a starter. Troy Smith? 4-4. Josh Johnson? 1-8. Nathan Peterman? 1-4. Sam Howell? 5-13. Possible? Yes. You’ve got to shine in limited…

An investor claims that a fraudulent online trading school in downtown Denver has partnered with a fake cryptocurrency exchange in Cherry Creek to rob him of $860,000. Brian Firestone of Florida says he was approached in December by a man named John Smith with the Alpha Stock Investment Training Center. Smith offered to teach Firestone how to trade cryptocurrencies and gifted him $500 to begin, according to the Florida man. The Alpha Stock Investment Training Center, which listed an address of 1660 Lincoln St. on its now-defunct website, advised people to trade crypto through CoinBridge Partners, a company at 950…

I believe changes are coming to 20th and Blake. Significant changes. In the front office and on the diamond because the Rockies’ historic losing season demands not just tweaks but revamping. I think owner Dick Monfort realizes that. How soon will it happen? That depends. Some changes in the front office could come during the season, and perhaps soon. Some will wait until the offseason. However, I believe the roster will look different after the July 31 trade deadline. The Rockies rarely wheel and deal, but that could change this summer. Although the team is playing better lately, the early…

By KELVIN CHAN, Associated Press LONDON (AP) — “Have you seen the cats?” That’s a common refrain in my household because our two felines, Maple and Juniper, can venture outside through a flap in the backdoor. Like many other London house cats, they’re free to come and go, roaming the surrounding backyards and beyond, equipped with microchips to identify them if they get lost. If your cat likes to prowl outdoors for long stretches, or your dog has a tendency to run off, it can be distressing when they don’t return as expected. If you’re worried about your furry friend’s…
