Alex Marrero (Photo provided by Denver Public Schools) Denver Public Schools’ Board of Education will investigate Superintendent Alex Marrero’s allegations that Director John Youngquist discriminated against employees of color, board President Carrie Olson said Monday. The school board met in a closed-to-the-public executive session last week to receive legal advice regarding allegations Marrero made in an email to Olson last month. Historically, the board has hired outside attorneys to investigate allegations against directors. “The board is committed to having a welcoming and inclusive environment in its schools and facilities, and we take allegations of discrimination seriously,” Olson said in a…

A Christian summer camp in the foothills near Bailey expects to be shut down by state regulators in the coming months unless a federal judge decides that it can legally separate campers by sex rather than by their gender identity. Camp IdRaHaJe, a portmanteau for “I’d rather have Jesus,” was founded in 1948 and operates week-long summer programs for children ages six to 17 on its 262 acres. The camp expects to host 2,500 to 3,000 youngsters this summer, according to a May 12 lawsuit. It also expects that a licensing specialist will arrive in June or July to determine…

One big swing and 14 whiffs doomed the Rockies on Sunday afternoon. Dominated by veteran right-hander Merrill Kelly, the Rockies were blanked, 1-0, by the Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Colorado managed just three hits and was shut out for the seventh time. “(Kelly) is a really good pitcher,” Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer told reporters in Phoenix. “We were ahead in a lot of counts today, but we just didn’t capitalize on balls in the zone to hit. He changes speeds so well. He nibbles. He’s just a really good pitcher, and we didn’t have an answer for him today.” The…

How can Nikola Jokic be expected to cook up a dynasty if he keeps running out of gas? Alex Caruso plays basketball like he’s trying to score a $50,000 bonus from Dana White. That said, the Nuggets probably could use, at minimum, two of him. Or two more of something relatively close to him if they’re to get the Joker another title in Denver before the horse is out of the barn. “Alex did a great job,” interim Nuggets coach David Adelman said of Caruso, who attached himself to Jokic’s hip in the paint, scored 11 points, collected three steals…

Dear Eric: I live in a small town about five hours from my parents, who live in the biggest city in our state. They have a beautiful home with a great downstairs room that is perfect to stay in when I visit. My father has Parkinson’s, so I make it up close to every month to hang out and try to make life for my mom a little easier. Sometimes I’ll go up with a friend for a concert and my parents welcome that person or persons with open arms, cooking meals and letting us use their house. But lately…

Nearly a dozen ducklings stuck in a storm drain Friday were saved by South Metro firefighters in what the agency is calling its most “a-duck-able rescue yet.” South Metro fire crews responded at about 1:14 p.m. Friday to a call for help about 10 ducklings that had “waddled into trouble” and fallen into a Greenwood Village storm drain, the fire department said on social media. Philip Coleman was walking his dog outside the Prentice Place Lofts apartment building on Friday when he noticed a duck hanging around the storm drain, according to a video posted by South Metro Fire Rescue.…

OKLAHOMA CITY — David Adelman wasn’t interested in addressing the elephant in the room, but his players were. The moment the final buzzer blared on Sunday, the Nuggets didn’t have a head coach. Their season was over in Oklahoma City, as was the interim portion of Adelman’s tenure after 17 games in charge. He coached almost as many Game 7s (two) as he did regular-season contests (three). That’s how preposterous the circumstances of his temporary promotion were. At least one player unambiguously hopes it’s more than temporary. “I love DA,” Aaron Gordon said. “I hope he’s here next year. I…
