The club with the worst start in modern National League history keeps sinking deeper. Colorado lost its eighth straight game on Tuesday at Coors Field, an 8-2 defeat to the Braves that was never in doubt. German Marquez, who’s yet to regain his All-Star form, was hit hard for seven runs in five-plus innings. And the NL’s most anemic offense struggled again, notching only six hits. That formula dropped the Rockies to 4-25 in a season that has already spiraled out of control. Firing hitting coach Hensley Meulens and replacing him with Rocktober boss Clint Hurdle has done nothing to…

By MORIAH BALINGIT, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. government has begun shedding new light on a crackdown on international students, spelling out how it targeted thousands of people and laying out the grounds for terminating their legal status. The new details emerged in lawsuits filed by some of the students who suddenly had their status canceled in recent weeks with little explanation. In the past month, foreign students around the U.S. have been rattled to learn their records had been removed from a student database maintained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Supreme Court suspended a judge accused of helping a man evade immigration authorities, saying Tuesday that it is in the public interest to relieve her of her duties as she faces two federal charges. The FBI took Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan into custody Friday morning at the county courthouse. In its two-page order, the state Supreme Court said it was acting on its own initiative and not responding to a request from…

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday told the Environmental Protection Agency to reconsider Colorado’s plan for improving its air quality because the state did not take into account the pollution emitted by drilling and fracking when it considers permits. The decision comes as Colorado prepares this year to revise an improvement plan after failing another air quality benchmark. The state is now in severe violation of two federal ozone pollution standards, and it must find a way to reduce that pollution or face more penalties. The Denver-based appellate court’s ruling does not require the EPA to force…

By NICOLE WINFIELD What is a conclave? VATICAN CITY (AP) — A conclave is the centuries-old election of a pope that derives its name from the Italian “con clave” (with a key) to underscore that cardinals are sequestered until they find a winner. Cardinals have no contact with the outside world after the master of liturgical ceremonies utters the words “Extra Omnes” the Latin phrase for “all out,” to ask all those present except the cardinal electors to leave the Sistine Chapel to begin the voting process. In between votes, the cardinals will be staying at the Domus Santa Marta…
