By Emily Weinstein, The New York TimesHappy holidays, everyone! I have a gift for you: five recipes with as little cleanup as possible.I’ve picked one-pot dinners that are nice but also casual — cozy, even — for the lazy days between Christmas and New Year’s Day, when you want to be anywhere but in the kitchen doing the dishes.1. One-Pot Chicken and Rice With GingerThis one-pot dish was inspired by a dinner of ginger fried rice and garlicky stir-fried greens served at Uncle Lou, a Cantonese restaurant in New York. It’s both mild and full of flavor, which might sound…
The Colorado Avalanche rolled into the holiday break with its best run of results, but it remains a hard team to place in the NHL’s hierarchy.Colorado won seven of its final nine games before the break. A bold move to swap out both goaltenders has paid clear and immediate dividends. But, it’s hard to say the Avs have looked like a team that expects to win 16 playoff games in the spring very often this season, even during the recent run. Colorado has survived an early-season injury/availability crisis and could be in position to make a second-half move upward in the…
Colorado’s employment counts have become so unreliable the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in an unprecedented move, has stopped issuing reports based on them.“BLS has observed data quality problems because of ongoing issues with the modernization of Colorado’s unemployment insurance system. As a result, BLS is temporarily suspending publication of Colorado employment, unemployment, and wage data,” the bureau said in a statement issued Dec. 18.The suspension was made in a program called State and Metro Area Employment, Hours & Earnings. It follows an earlier decision by the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, or QCEW program, to suspend metro- and…

ALLEN PARK, Mich. — The Detroit Lions are bringing back Teddy Bridgewater to give the team a veteran backup quarterback for their playoff run.Coach Dan Campbell said Thursday that the team signed Bridgewater as another backup with second-year player Hendon Hooker behind starter Jared Goff. The Lions have clinched a playoff spot and can earn the top seed in the NFC with two more wins.Bridgewater was the backup in Detroit for the 2023 season when he got on the field for three snaps at the end of a blowout win over Carolina.Bridgewater spent the fall coaching at his high school…
NEW YORK (AP) — Blake Lively’s claims that “It Ends With Us” director and co-star Justin Baldoni unleashed a smear campaign against her have gained support from a new lawsuit that Baldoni’s former publicist filed against him. The lawsuit was lodged Tuesday in New York state court in Manhattan by Stephanie Jones, who began representing Baldoni in 2017. It said the actor and his movie production company, Wayfarer, expanded their contract in 2020, agreeing to pay a $25,000 monthly fee.The lawsuit alleged that Baldoni, 40, and Wayfarer last August, when the film was released, teamed up with publicists to try…
By WILL GRAVESPITTSBURGH — Andy Reid donned a Santa Claus suit in a giddy Kansas City Chiefs locker room on Christmas Day, then handed his team a present it increasingly looks like it deserves: home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. How Reid managed to slide into the costume so quickly after Kansas City’s clinical 29-10 victory over the reeling Pittsburgh Steelers to lock up the top seed in the AFC for the fourth time in seven years is a mystery (though he hinted there’s an elf involved). How Reid’s team manages to pull away from the pack year after year is not.A…

Merry Nixmas. And Happy New Year?Bo Nix and the Broncos have exceeded expectations, posting their first winning season since 2016. But the joy they have brought Broncos Country also makes them prisoners of their success. We are a society defined by instant gratification.Puzzles and government bonds were not under the tree Wednesday. More like drones and Teenage Mutant Ninja Mayhem Pizzafire Delivery Vans. This season, fair or not, will be largely defined by these final two games. Can the Broncos reach the playoffs, ending the NFL’s second-longest active drought to the Jets? As a reminder, being in a sentence with the…
