Apparently, Russell Wilson and Ciara didn’t buy what Sean Payton was shoveling on radio row during Super Bowl Week. A fairly newsy seven days — congrats, Jenny Cavnar and welcome home, Troy Renck — in the Grading The Week offices got even newsier Friday. Because just when we were about to wax poetic on Christian Braun’s knuckleball of a jumper or the latest chapter in Carmelo Anthony’s revisionist history, word got out that Big Russ, the Broncos’ soon-to-be-ex-starting-QB, was putting his family’s Cherry Hills Village mansion on the market. This little tidbit, of course, came to light just a few…
SAN FRANCISCO — In September, Amazon said it would invest up to $4 billion in Anthropic, a San Francisco startup working on artificial intelligence. Soon after, an Amazon executive sent a private message to an executive at another company. He said Anthropic had won the deal because it agreed to build its AI using specialized computer chips designed by Amazon. Amazon, he wrote, wanted to create a viable competitor to the chipmaker Nvidia, a key partner and kingmaker in the all-important field of AI. The boom in generative AI over the past year exposed just how dependent big tech companies…
Dear Amy: My husband and I have two daughters, ages 24 and 26. One lives in an apartment and works, and the other also lives in an apartment while she finishes graduate school. My question concerns their stuff. I expect them to move around for the next few years, and I don’t need them to take all of their stuff now, but I want to have a plan for when I will no longer be the curator of everyone’s stuff. The garage is packed to the gills and this project needs to start there. I have many struggles, but getting…

Colorado Democrats are eying a large portion of the state’s $1.8 billion-plus surplus this year to provide child tax credits targeted to help lower-income families — along with another slice devoted to helping people working in health- and child-care fields. The proposals are costly policy moves that could put state lawmakers on a path for conflict with Gov. Jared Polis, a fellow Democrat, over what to do with the surplus and broader tax policy. The legislators, including a top member of the House, argue the money — which normally would be refunded to taxpayers — gives Colorado an opportunity to…
While battling in the quarterfinals of the CHSAA state tournament on Friday, James Horton’s corner included his two coaches plus a couple of interpreters, who moved around the mat and signed the coaches’ instructions to him throughout the match. That was the only indication of the hearing hurdles that Horton, who has been deaf his whole life, overcame to make it to Ball Arena this year. Besides his interpreters, the Littleton junior 190-pounder was just another wrestler chasing his dreams as he refuses to let his deafness define him. Horton won the Class 4A Region 2 tournament en route to…

New listings skyrocketed in the Denver metro and across Colorado in January. The January Market Trends Housing Report from the Colorado Association of Realtors recorded an 80% jump in single-family listings and more than an 88% increase in townhome/condo listings compared to December. Statewide, single-family listings increased 75% in January, while new townhome/condo listings jumped 73.2%. “In Boulder and Broomfield counties, the real estate market woke up on Jan. 2,” said Boulder/Broomfield-area realtor Kelly Moye. “The combination of lower interest rates and general optimism of a new year brought buyers out to look and sellers ready to list.” More buyers…
Senior Rylee Balcazar is on quest for perfection. But her legacy at Fort Lupton is already cemented.
Rylee Balcazar sees perfection standing in front of her. It’s calling her name and she’s eager to take it. The Fort Lupton senior girls wrestler didn’t think much of her perfect record until she walked through the doors of Ball Arena for the 2024 CHSAA state wrestling tournament on Thursday. “I was like ‘I’m actually undefeated,’” said Balcazar, who enters Saturday 44-0. “Now, I just want to go all in.” So far, so good. Balcazar pinned her way through her first two matches in the 105-pound bracket, taking down Palmer’s Sarah Brown in 47 seconds in the first round, then…
