Beat writer Bennett Durando opens up the Nuggets Mailbag periodically during the season. Pose a Nuggets- or NBA- related question here. How concerned should we be with the Nuggets’ record against teams above .500? Currently we (have a losing record) against those teams and a (near-perfect) record against sub .500 teams. Nice to know we are beating the teams we should be beating, but the Nuggets are getting the good teams’ best games. Do you think we’ll improve down the stretch and focus when it comes to playoff time to run it back? — Rod, Las Vegas I tend to think…
Anthony De Leon | (TNS) Los Angeles Times LOS ANGELES — The craze has prompted long lines outside of Target stores in the dead of night. Ugly fights have broken out. Shouting matches have erupted. All this hubbub over Stanley cups. No, not the Stanley Cup awarded to the National Hockey League champion. We are talking about the insulated steel tumblers sold in various colors at Target and Starbucks. On a recent Friday afternoon, Target shelves in L.A. County were barren, devoid of cups. Surprisingly, there haven’t been reports of people resorting to violence to secure the coveted item, but…
Ross Colton has never played with Gabriel Landeskog, but he’s been on the opposing team for the NHL’s biggest stage and he’s started to learn why his new teammates speak and feel the way they do about the Avalanche captain. Landeskog was on the ice with some teammates Thursday during an optional practice at Family Sports Complex. Avs coach Jared Bednar said it was the first time Landeskog has skated this season. “It’s awesome,” Colton said. “He’s been around the team for a couple weeks now. He just brings good presence, good leadership. He’s vocal. He’s talking to us, especially…
This delicious soup makes a quick, weeknight meal. At the heart of the flavor profile are store-bought frozen potstickers. These Asian dumplings are available at most supermarkets, as well as Trader Joe’s and Costco. Some are filled with a chicken and vegetable mixture; others boast a mix of pork and veggies. In this easy-to-prepare soup I’ve used carrots and celery because I always have those vegetables on hand for an emergency meal. Feel free to change up the vegetables, using snow peas, quartered baby bok chop, or sliced shiitake mushrooms. Easy Potsticker Soup Yield: 4 servings INGREDIENTS 2 tablespoons vegetable…
Housing, housing, and more housing will dominate Colorado Gov. Jared Polis’ agenda this legislative session as state leaders aim to encourage more building across the state. The governor, entering his sixth year in office, previewed his priorities Thursday in his annual State of the State address to a packed Colorado House chamber. Roughly the first third of Polis’ nearly hourlong speech was dialed in on housing and transportation — including a full-throated push for the promise of the Front Range Passenger Rail plan and a call for more scrutiny of, and support for, metro Denver’s Regional Transportation District. But even…
Tim Henderson | Stateline.org (TNS) Pay hikes over the past four years have lifted the wages of people who work in hospitality — the nation’s lowest-paid industry — nearly 30% on average, reversing much of the wage inequality that has been growing for decades in the United States. In 40 states, even those that haven’t raised their minimum wage beyond the $7.25 federal floor, the recent pay jumps outpaced those of earners in each state’s highest-paying industry, usually energy, technology or the federal government. The lowest-wage industry in every state is leisure and hospitality, a category that includes restaurants, bars…
Colorado has found some more defensive line depth from the SEC. On Thursday, former Arkansas defensive tackle Taurean Carter announced that he has decided to play his final season of eligibility with the Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders. Meanwhile, the Buffs are losing defensive back Jahquez Robinson, who announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal. The 6-foot-3, 303-pound Carter had announced a commitment to SMU last week, but changed his mind and plans to play in Boulder. Carter is the fifth defensive line/end transfer addition for the Buffs this offseason, including Carter, Anquin Barnes (Alabama) and Quency Wiggins…
Sean Payton’s frustrations were evident as he stood at the podium during Tuesday’s end-of-the-season press conference. Although he thought the Broncos made progress during his first season as the head coach, the inconsistent effort from the offense was a problem. “Were we as good as we expected or wanted to be offensively this year? Absolutely not. Just look at the numbers,” Payton said. Denver was a shell of the dynamic offenses Payton constructed in New Orleans. The Broncos finished their season 28th in total offensive yards (298.4), 18th in rushing yards (106.5) and 24th in passing yards (191.9) while averaging…

The Nuggets lost 124-111 to the Jazz on Wednesday night in a game that was never close. They return home to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday (8 p.m. MT, ESPN) at Ball Arena. Here are three takeaways from the loss. Outworked, especially on defense This was arguably the Nuggets’ most disappointing effort of 2023-24 to date, considering they had fresh legs from two days off and a one-hour flight to Utah. The Jazz lead peaked at 25 points during the third quarter, nearly matching Denver’s largest deficit of the season — but when it was 26, it was…
