Aaron Gordon always shows up to work in style, but on New Year’s Day, he combined his sense of fashion with his sense of self-deprecating humor. Making his return after missing two games due to injuries caused by his Rottweiler on Christmas, Gordon wore a chain featuring a bejeweled bulldog as part of his outfit to Ball Arena on Monday night. Gordon scored 10 points in a Nuggets win over the Hornets, playing with 21 stitches on his right hand and face. “It was all good,” Gordon told The Denver Post afterward. “Everything’s good.” He acknowledged that the chain was…
There won’t be a third chance to test the theory this season, but when the Nuggets play the Hornets, the games seem to follow an algorithm. It takes the Nuggets 24 minutes and a halftime wake-up call to start taking Charlotte seriously. Once they do, order is restored. For the second time in 10 days, Denver used an alarmingly lopsided third quarter to vanquish the Hornets, winning 111-93 on Monday night to bounce back from its worst loss at Ball Arena in four years. In Charlotte on Dec. 23, the second half started with a 25-1 Nuggets run bolstered by…
As the culminating moment of a career begins to slowly fade into increasingly distant memory, the image that will always endure in the mind of Ish Smith is the one he captured when he looked up. Confetti plummeted toward him until it engulfed him like a realization. “We won it,” he recalls thinking. “We won it.” The singular emotion from that championship celebration that will always endure for Smith is indicative of how the 35-year-old thinks, how he makes decisions and how he ended up back in Charlotte this season. “I was just thinking about all the stories, the storylines,”…

Broncos coach Sean Payton announced Monday that safety Delarrin Turner-Yell will be placed on the injured reserve after suffering a torn ACL in Sunday’s 16-9 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Turner-Yell was helped off the field in the first quarter when he injured his knee during Chargers wide receiver Derius Davis’ 12-yard punt return. After the game, Turner-Yell was in the locker room with crutches and a large brace on his left knee. While Payton knows Turner-Yell will be out for Sunday’s season finale against the Las Vegas Raiders, he is hopeful about starting right tackle Mike McGlinchey, who…

By WILL WEISSERT and LINLEY SANDERS (Associated Press) WASHINGTON (AP) — In this time of war overseas, more Americans think foreign policy should be a top focus for the U.S. government in 2024, with a new poll showing international concerns and immigration rising in importance with the public. About 4 in 10 U.S. adults named foreign policy topics in an open-ended question that asked people to share up to five issues for the government to work on in the next year, according to a December poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. That’s about twice as many…
