Among the topics discussed: The Nuggets’ two-man brain trust turned Porter’s salary into four players: Cam Johnson, Jonas Valanciunas, Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. How in the world did they pull this off? By JONEL ALECCIA, Associated Press Nearly 368,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer turkey bacon products are being recalled over possible contamination with listeria bacteria that can cause food poisoning, federal health officials said Wednesday. No illnesses have been confirmed to date, U.S. agriculture department officials said. Kraft Heinz Food Company of Newberry, South Carolina, announced the recall of the fully cooked turkey bacon that was produced from April 24 to June 11. The problem was discovered when the company’s laboratory testing indicated potential listeria contamination. The recall includes the following products, which were shipped to U.S. stores nationwide, as well as…
By CURT ANDERSON and MARTA LAVANDIER, Associated Press OCHOPEE, Fla. (AP) — The first group of immigrants were scheduled to arrive Wednesday night at a new detention center deep in the Florida Everglades that officials have dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” the state’s attorney general said. “Alligator Alcatraz will be checking in hundreds of criminal illegal aliens tonight,” Florida Republican Attorney General James Uthmeier said on the X social media platform. “Next stop: back to where they came from.” It wasn’t immediately clear precisely when the detainees would arrive or where they were coming from. They were being brought to the facility…
Jose Altuve had a couple Hall of Fame moments on Wednesday, while the Rockies lacked any game-changing ones of their own. Houston’s star second baseman laid down a crafty bunt in the opening inning that helped the Astros take an early lead, and then delivered a two-out, two-RBI single later in the game that passed Jeff Bagwell on the club’s all-time hits list and ended up being the difference. That led to a 5-3 defeat for Colorado at Coors Field. With that, the Rockies dropped to 19-67 — remaining on pace to eclipse the 2024 White Sox’s modern record of…

Because of the patient’s age, location and potential for a serious medical condition, the volunteers requested a Flight for Life helicopter, but…
The Littleton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in bringing justice to a 36-year-old woman whose disappearance and suspected murder happened nine years ago. Charlene Voight went missing in July of 2016, according to a news release. The investigation identified her boyfriend, 46-year-old Jeffrey Scott Beier, as a suspect. In 2019, an Arapahoe County grand jury indicted Beier for Voight’s murder, among other charges, the news release said. Voight’s remains were never found, police said. Shortly after Voight’s disappearance, Beier fled to Russia, police said. In 2020, Beier was taken into custody in Russia for unrelated charges and…
By MATTHEW PERRONE, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — The government’s top vaccine official working under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently restricted the approval of two COVID-19 vaccines, disregarding recommendations from government scientists, according to federal documents released Wednesday. The new memos from the Food and Drug Administration show how the agency’s vaccine chief, Dr. Vinay Prasad, personally intervened to place restrictions on COVID shots from vaccine makers Novavax and Moderna. Both vaccines were approved by the FDA in May after months of analysis by rank-and-file FDA reviewers. But internal correspondence show Prasad disagreed with staffers who planned to…
By JOSH BOAK, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — An analysis finds a critical group of U.S. employers would face a direct cost of $82.3 billion from President Donald Trump’s current tariff plans, a sum that could potentially be managed through price hikes, layoffs, hiring freezes or lower profit margins. The analysis by the JPMorganChase Institute is among the first to measure the direct costs created by the import taxes on businesses with $10 million to $1 billion in annual revenue, a category including roughly a third of private-sector U.S. workers. These companies are more dependent than other businesses on imports from…

By MICHAEL R. SISAK and LARRY NEUMEISTER, Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — Sean “Diddy” Combs dropped to his knees and prayed in the courtroom after he was acquitted Wednesday of sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have put one of hip-hop’s most celebrated figures behind bars for life. The rapper was convicted of lesser prostitution-related offenses and still faces prison time but could be freed from jail while awaiting sentencing. The mixed result capped a sordid legal odyssey that shattered Combs’ affable “Puff Daddy” image and derailed his career as a Grammy-winning artist and music executive, fashion entrepreneur, brand ambassador and reality…
