Denver Nuggets point guard Russell Westbrook underwent surgery on his right hand to fix multiple ligament tears. The team said Tuesday in a statement the procedure was performed by Dr. Steven Shin at the Kerlan-Jobe Surgery Center. The statement added that Westbrook “is expected to resume full offseason training this summer.” Earlier in the day, Westbrook said he was having surgery Tuesday to fix two breaks in his right hand that he suffered during the season. He wrote in his “ Word of Westbrook ” newsletter that he was “grateful for everyone’s support all year and I can’t wait to be back…
A legacy Denver brewery will soon close both of its taprooms within city limits following its acquisition by a larger craft conglomerate. At the end of June, Great Divide Brewing Co. will stop serving beer at 2201 Arapahoe St., where it was founded in 1994. It will also shut the doors to its River North Art District facility, known as the Barrel Bar & Cellar, at 1812 35th St. The brewery’s three branded locations in the suburbs — which are run by a restaurant group — will remain open, but the closings remove Great Divide’s footprint from its hometown. Its…
Denver’s website was down for nearly eight hours Tuesday because of an unknown technical problem, according to city officials. The denvergov.org site went down about 11 a.m. and was inaccessible until about 6:30 p.m. The city still didn’t have information about what caused the outage, spokesperson Jon Ewing said. Although the city’s technology department was investigating the cause, officials don’t know yet whether it was an attack or just an outage. They have no timeline for when they will finish the investigation. “We are experiencing a citywide network outage that is affecting multiple applications and technology systems,” Ewing said in…
There’s a big new commercial listing in the tiny town of Morrison. Dave Killingsworth, a business owner in the town of 400 by Red Rocks Amphitheatre, recently put his 1.3-acre block along Bear Creek Avenue up for sale, with a price tag of $15 million. It includes two parking lots and 12,400 square feet of building space, used by two restaurants, an upholstery shop, three rental units and a bar. His broker, Phil Yeddis of Unique Properties, said it’s the largest parcel to ever hit the market in downtown Morrison. Killingsworth seconded that point. “You’re not going to find another…
A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in a fatal stabbing at a Brighton home last week, police officials said Tuesday. Johnny Jose Moreno was arrested by Aurora police officers early Friday morning, the Brighton Police Department said in a news release. The stabbing occurred about 5 p.m. Thursday in the 3000 block of East Bridge Street, when police were called about an unconscious man and found a 34-year-old with stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at Platte Valley Medical Center. Moreno fled the scene after the stabbing, and investigators believe he knew the victim, according to…
The math is not complicated. A lack of key hits, plus costly walks, plus costly errors equals 9-45. That’s the Rockies’ historically dismal record after a 3-1 loss to the Cubs on Monday afternoon at windy Wrigley Field. With their .167 winning percentage, Colorado is on pace to finish 27-135, which would shatter the Modern Era (since 1901) record for losses in a season, set last year when the White Sox lost 121 games. Rookie left-hander Carson Palmquist made an encouraging five-inning start, but it was lost in the Rockies’ usual shuffle. Colorado pitchers combined for four walks, and three…
Renck: Red, White and Cover 2. Flag football will debut as an Olympic sport in 2028 in Los Angeles. NFL owners signed off on professional players participating last week. Just thinking about the potential roster brings goosebumps: Tyreek Hill? Justin Jefferson? Ja’Marr Chase? Travis Hunter? Lamar Jackson? Joe Burrow? They will be the Meme Team, their highlights smashing opponents going viral after every game. But somebody must provide guardrails, a few plays and some direction. The group requires a coach. Given that it will feature pro players, how about a Broncos connection? Who makes more sense as the man with…
The 28-year-old charged with attempting to firebomb a U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv was born in Colorado, according to a complaint filed Sunday in the U.S. District Court. Joseph Neumeyer, who has dual United States and German citizenship, was apprehended in Israel and flown to the United States on Sunday. He was charged with attempting to destroy, by means of fire or explosive, a U.S. embassy office in Tel Aviv, the complaint said. Neumeyer had been in Israel since April and on May 19 wrote on social media about plans to burn down the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv. “Join…
The search is on for the Plains Sharp-Tailed Grouse after reports of the bird near Roxborough State Park. Reddit user happylustig noticed a poster at Roxborough State Park encouraging anyone who sees the rare bird to report it to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). The organization is trying to keep track of the state-endangered bird after receiving reports of sightings in the area. Anyone who sees the bird can take a photo or a video of it and call CPW directly. The poster originally mentioned in the Reddit post contains the phone number of one CPW employee, but Van Hoose…
