An out-of-state traveler with a confirmed case of measles traveled through Denver International Airport and stayed at a nearby hotel last week before catching another flight, public health officials said Thursday. The person was infectious when they flew into DIA’s international terminal on May 13, went to the Quality Inn and Suites for the night and returned to the airport on May 14 to catch a domestic flight, Denver and Colorado public health officials said in a news release. Anyone who was exposed on either flight will be notified by their state or local public health agency. State officials are…

By CARLA K. JOHNSON Excess body weight can raise the risk of certain cancers, leading researchers to wonder whether blockbuster drugs like Wegovy, Ozempic and Zepbound could play a role in cancer prevention. Now, a study of 170,000 patient records suggests there’s a slightly lower risk of obesity-related cancers in U.S. adults with diabetes who took these popular medications compared to those who took another class of diabetes drug not associated with weight loss. This type of study can’t prove cause and effect, but the findings hint at a connection worth exploring. More than a dozen cancers are associated with…

Josh Kroenke said all the right things. And his message was completely wrong. He hears the clock ticking on Nikola Jokic’s prime. But his plan to maximize his brilliance came across as tone deaf. Kroenke is prepared to run it back. He did not say those words exactly. But make no mistake, next year’s Nuggets could look a lot like last year’s. They will never win another championship doing this. Keeping this current roster together is the equivalent of working out on a stationary bike. It feels good. But you go nowhere. The Nuggets received one of the greatest seasons…

By ADRIANA GOMEZ LICON The foreign men convicted of crimes who were placed on a deportation flight headed for the chaotic nation of South Sudan were originally from countries as far away as Mexico and Vietnam. They had lived in various places from California to Iowa, Nebraska to Florida, with one serving a sentence of nearly 30 years. They were accused and convicted of crimes ranging from murder, to rape, robbery and assault. Despite their criminal records, a federal judge says the White House violated a court order on deportations to third countries, adding these eight migrants aboard the plane…

By DAMIAN J. TROISE, AP Business Writers NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks drifted to a mixed close on Wall Street Thursday in what has been a rocky week so far because of worries coming out of the bond market about the U.S. government’s mounting debt. Trading remained choppy throughout most of the day following Wednesday’s big slump for the S&P 500. That loss has put the benchmark index on track for its worst week in the last seven. The S&P 500 slipped 2.60 points, or less than 0.1%, to close at 5,842.01. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.35 points, or less than 0.1%,…

Animal rights lawyers based at the University of Denver are threatening to sue Colorado Parks and Wildlife if the agency issues another permit for an elephant show at the annual Renaissance Festival in Larkspur. In a letter to Parks and Wildlife, the Animal Activist Legal Defense Project said the agency is violating Colorado law by issuing permits to Trunks and Humps, the exhibitor that puts on the “Elephant Experience” show at the fair. State law prohibits elephants being used in traveling animal acts, attorney Chris Carraway and director and DU law professor Justin Marceau wrote. The group is demanding Parks…

On Friday, Gov. Jared Polis signed a new law that extends anti-discrimination protections to transgender Coloradans who are intentionally misgendered or deadnamed in settings like the workplace or in school. Two days later, a website appeared that encouraged people to report “violations” of the new law, House Bill 1312. The site included an online form and a phone hotline, through which people can push 1 to report churches or similar places and push 2 to report caregivers. But the website was not created by the Colorado Civil Rights Division, which investigates alleged discrimination. Nor was it launched by any other…

LOVELAND — Ivan Ivan knows it is going to come up at some point. Teammates, coaches, fans, media members … eventually, someone is going to ask him about his name. It’s never mean-spirited, but people are always curious. “It is funny,” Ivan said. “A lot of people think my parents hate me or something. I find that pretty crazy. If my parents hated me, they wouldn’t let me play hockey. It’s one of the most expensive sports. “My parents wanted me to be special, so it’s not a common name.” Ivan took an uncommon path to the NHL this season.…
