Clint Hurdle captained the Good Ship Miracle during a remarkable run that became known as “Roctober.” That talented Rockies team won 21 of 22 games to reach the 2007 World Series. Nearly 18 years later, Hurdle is charged with the task of instilling life into the Rockies’ dormant offense and finding ways to get young players to cut down on an astonishing number of empty at-bats. It might not take a miracle to improve what’s been the Rockies’ worst offense in franchise history for two-plus seasons, but Hurdle faces a daunting task. After back-to-back 100-loss seasons, the Rockies have opened…

For most of the 2024-25 season, the Colorado Avalanche played at a disadvantage because of injuries to key players. The young Rapids are getting younger. The Colorado Rapids transferred winger Omir Fernández to the Portland Timbers on Friday afternoon. In the deal, which comes just a week before the primary transfer window closes on April 23, the club received $200,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and will receive up to $50,000 in performance-based add-ons. In 41 appearances over a season and a quarter in Colorado, Fernández notched two goals and five assists, which wasn’t a ton of production for an otherwise high-caliber Rapids offense. He joined the club as a free agent not long after coach Chris Armas took…

Starting in summer 2026, ammunition sold in Colorado must be kept behind counters or in locked shelves under a law signed Friday by Gov. Jared Polis. House Bill 1133 requires ammo be accessible to customers only with the help of a store employee. The law defines ammo as “ammunition or (a) cartridge case,…

By JOSH FUNK, AP Business Writer OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — America’s only rare earths mine heard from anxious companies soon after China responded to President Donald Trump’s tariffs this month by limiting exports of those minerals used for military applications and in many high-tech devices. “Based on the number of phone calls we’re receiving, the effects have been immediate,” said Matt Sloustcher, a spokesperson for MP Materials, the company that runs the Mountain Pass mine in California’s Mojave Desert. The trade war between the world’s two biggest economies could lead to a critical shortage of rare earth elements if China…

After 195 strikeouts in 18 games, the Rockies finally hit on something — common sense. General manager Bill Schmidt fired hitting instructor Hensley Meulens on Thursday, replacing him with Clint Hurdle. Yes, that Clint Hurdle. The decision they made last offseason finally cost them something beyond games. Like their dignity. Even for a shameless organization, the 3-15 record is embarrassing. While the blame should not fall on…
