Against the Cleveland Browns in Week 12, Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles put on a pass-blocking clinic. Early in the fourth quarter, Denver faced a third-and-goal when edge rusher Myles Garrett tried to charge at quarterback Russell Wilson. Bolles had good leverage and hand placement as he stood in front of Garrett, preventing the All-Pro defensive end from changing direction and sacking Wilson, who had time to throw a touchdown pass to tight end Adam Trautman. After a broken leg held Bolles to five games in 2022, he returned to be a stable presence on Denver’s offensive line this past…
By STEVE PEOPLES and BRIAN SLODYSKO (Associated Press) NEW YORK (AP) — Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel has discussed the possibility of stepping down during a private meeting with former President Donald Trump, with both agreeing to delay a decision until after South Carolina’s primary later this month, according to two people familiar with the matter. McDaniel has not formally decided to leave her position as head of the GOP’s political machine, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to disclose internal deliberations. But having long faced vocal opposition from a faction of the party, McDaniel is…
FORT COLLINS — In a conference of chaos, the Colorado State men’s basketball team continues to hold serve at home. CSU made Boise State its latest victim at Moby Arena as the Rams avenged an earlier loss to the Broncos with a 75-62 victory Tuesday night. It was the Rams’ 12th win at home this season (12-1) and their fifth win on their home court in Mountain West Conference play. In a topsy-turvy league that features five teams in the top 35 of the NET rankings, home wins are crucial, and CSU continues to make opponents miserable at Moby. With…
By ERIC TUCKER and ALANNA DURKIN RICHER (Associated Press) WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal appeals panel ruled Tuesday that Donald Trump can face trial on charges that he plotted to overturn the results of the 2020 election, rejecting the former president’s claims that he is immune from prosecution and breathing life back into a landmark prosecution that had been effectively frozen while the court considered the arguments. The decision marks the second time in as many months that judges have spurned Trump’s immunity arguments and held that he can be prosecuted for actions undertaken while in the White House and…
Major League Soccer is giving back to youth soccer clubs around the U.S. The MLS NEXT Development Grant program, announced by the league Tuesday, is aimed at paying its MLS NEXT Elite academies for developing players who go on to sign MLS Homegrown contracts. Real Colorado, a local youth soccer academy, is one of the first to benefit from the program after former Real goalkeeper Adam Beaudry recently signed a first team contract with the Colorado Rapids. So far, a total over $100,000 has been allocated to eight academies throughout the U.S. for producing 10 Homegrown talents. According to MLS…
Arapahoe Basin, which has a reputation as one of the last independent, locals-focused major ski areas in Colorado, said yesterday that it is selling to Alterra Mountain Resorts. If the sale goes through, something that is expected to take place by the end of the year, the Summit County mountain will now join with Winter Park and Steamboat, which Alterra also operates. Alan Henceroth, who is the public face and COO of A-Basin, said he believes that Alterra will keep “the vibe alive” at The Legend (the ski area’s nickname), which is typically the first mountain to open every year…
Denver has two chances for snow later this week as storms move through the state. The first chance comes Wednesday evening after a few days of highs in the 50s melt off last week’s remaining snow. The high on Wednesday is 55 degrees, so any precipitation will likely begin as rain, and then snow could mix with the rain by late evening. Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Boulder don’t expect any accumulation from that round of snow in Denver; Rabbit Ears Pass will get the brunt of the snow with up to 14 inches possible. The next system…
A 52-year-old man from Miami, Fla. died Thursday after a “serious incident” while skiing at Breckenridge Ski Resort. Breckenridge Ski Patrol responded to a skier incident Thursday on an intermediate trail on the resort’s Peak 8 and took the man to a first aid room, ski resort spokesperson Sara Lococo said. The man died after more emergency care and evaluation. A woman skiing died at Aspen Highlands less than a week earlier on Jan. 27 after colliding with a tree. source
By JAVIER ARCIGA AND ELLIOT SPAGAT (Associated Press) JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) — Nearly every day since September, hundreds of migrants from China, Colombia and other countries have wiggled through openings in the border wall with Mexico and walked dirt trails to surrender to U.S. agents and seek asylum. Some days, more than 1,000 arrive in the boulder-strewn mountains near San Diego, alone. While they wait to be processed and given a court date, they live in tents and makeshift structures of tree branches in scattered campsites. These encampments would likely vanish under a Senate bill that would make…
Keeler: Before Aaron Gordon stole Front Range hearts and slammed them with two hands in the face of hapless NBA defenders, the title of “Mr. Nugget” belonged to Monte Morris. So imagine my delight when I saw The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor on Monday postulate that Calvin Booth and the Nuggs brass were “considering” making a run at the veteran Pistons point guard. Big Game Tae is stuck in a backcourt logjam in the Motor City and was beloved here by teammates, coaches, scribes — pretty much everyone. Meanwhile, the Nuggets need some more vroom out of their bench as they…
