Two days before lawmakers are set to reconvene in Denver, Colorado House Speaker Julie McCluskie issued a formal letter of reprimand Monday to Rep. Elisabeth Epps, citing her “significantly disruptive … disrespectful behaviors” during the special session in November. The reprimand comes seven weeks after Epps, a Denver Democrat, unsuccessfully attempted to introduce a pro-Palestine amendment to an unrelated bill on a summer meal program that was taken up during the session on property tax relief and other aid. She then interrupted House proceedings by sitting with protesters in the House gallery and shouting down at her colleagues below. “It…
Jared Bednar has often preached focusing on the process, taking a long-term view and expecting the results will follow. Colorado’s effort against one of the NHL’s best teams, despite missing two key defensemen two days after a rough loss, was a key takeaway Monday night at Ball Arena. Valeri Nichushkin made sure the Avalanche also collected two points with the lone tally in the shootout in a 4-3 win. “Start to finish, that’s probably one of our most complete games of the year,” Bednar said. “Just the way we played, competed, took care of the puck — it was a…

“Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless.” That passage from Isaiah 58:7 was invoked by the Rock Church in a lawsuit it filed against Castle Rock last week as part of an attempt to overturn the town’s decision to bar the evangelical church from providing temporary shelter to homeless people in two RVs parked behind the church. “The Bible specifically directs God’s people to care for the poor and needy, and these Scriptures, and others, state the sincerely held beliefs of the Rock regarding care for the poor and needy,” the lawsuit, filed in Douglas…
A Windsor Police shooting was under investigation Monday after officers exchanged gunfire with a suspect at a hotel while responding to reports of an armed person. A suspect was taken into custody and no injuries were reported, according to a news release from Windsor Police Department Commander Richard Zeigler. An Eighth Judicial District team, led by Loveland Police Department officers, has been tasked with investigating the shooting. Around 4:21 p.m. Sunday, a Weld County dispatcher sent police to the AmericInn, 7645 Westgate Drive, in Windsor. A Windsor Severance Fire Rescue crew also went to the hotel, responding to a fire…
The Madden Museum of Art is a unique site on Colorado’s cultural landscape. The place has been around since 2008, but it is safe to say that many people, even serious art fans, have never been there. Part of that is because of its location, on the first floor of an office tower called Palazzo Verdi, in Greenwood Village, far from the center of the region’s visual arts scene in downtown Denver. But it also remains under the radar because of the way it produces exhibitions. There is no regular schedule for shows and limited promotion when a new one…

The 2023 season is over. Long live the 2023 season. It’s never too early to start thinking about next season. Or, at the least, who the Broncos will be playing in the fall of 2024. With the regular-season dust settling, Denver’s schedule came into view. The NFL will announce the full schedule likely sometime in May, but in the meantime we know who Sean Payton’s team will be facing at home and on the road. Denver finished third in the AFC West at 8-9, losing a tiebreaker with Las Vegas after getting swept in the season series. That means they’ll…
Offense — D Quarterback Jarrett Stidham talked extensively this week about how much he respected Maxx Crosby, his former Raiders teammate. Well, Crosby reacquainted himself with the now-Broncos signal-caller several times Sunday with a sack and four hits. Denver struggled again to run the ball and struggled to contain Crosby or the Las Vegas pass-rush. Stidham got sacked five times overall and was impacted by the rush throughout the game. He fumbled a third-and-goal snap before Javonte Williams punched in a 2-yard run from the Wildcat. The Broncos’ two games with Stidham at quarterback resulted in their two lowest-scoring output…
