LAS VEGAS — The conclusion of the Jarrett Stidham experiment wasn’t pretty. Down 14 with 1:08 left against the Raiders, Stidham’s pass to wide receiver Jerry Jeudy fluttered inside Allegiant Stadium before it was picked off by safety Tre’von Moehrig, solidifying a 27-14 loss on Sunday afternoon. When Stidham replaced nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson as the Broncos’ starting quarterback, head coach Sean Payton hoped the move would ignite the offense. Stidham had his moments. He threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Lil’Jordan Humphrey against the Chargers in Week 17. And against the Raiders, he connected with Jeudy for a…

Christopher Nolan’s American epic “Oppenheimer” dominated the 81st Golden Globes, winning best drama, while Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” pulled off an upset victor over “Barbie” to triumph in the best comedy or musical category. If awards season has been building toward a second match-up of Barbenheimer, this round went to “Oppenheimer.” It also won best director for Nolan, best drama actor for Cillian Murphy, best supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr. and for Ludwig Göransson’s score. “Golden Globes journalists, thank you for changing your game, therefore changing your name,” said Downey. Along with best comedy or musical, “Poor Things” also won for…

Vigilance became more vulnerable to vanish once the losing streak did. At least, that’s what worried Nuggets coach Michael Malone. The most daunting aspect of facing the reeling Detroit Pistons, he determined before tip-off Sunday night, was “human nature.” “You look at their record,” Malone said, “and they’ve won three games.” But the level of national attention on that win-loss total has dissipated since Dec. 30, when the Pistons finally snapped a record-tying 28-game losing streak. The motivational healthy fear of being the team to end the streak, to lose the un-losable, is no longer looming over Detroit’s opponents. Human…

The burden of managing the wolf population Re: “Waking up to wolves,” Dec. 31 commentary This law is a one-sided thing that should never have been passed by voters, but now requires some serious legislation to regulate or nullify it. Robert Cox, Montrose I am not sure who decided on the subheadline (“Colorado Parks and Wildlife damaged any trust they had built with ranchers”), but I think it is misplaced and does a disservice to CPW. I won’t argue with Fischer’s opinion; the concerns are real, and I appreciate his perspective, even if I may not entirely agree with it.…

With a Bible balanced on a knee over her crisscrossed legs, Christen Ibarra wove scripture into the “Holy Yoga” class she taught during the first week of December in the recreation room at Golden’s First Presbyterian Church. Interspersed between lunges, quiet moments of rest and downward-facing dogs, Ibarra reminded the class how much they were loved by Jesus. As the class laid back on yoga mats atop church carpet, Ibarra told them to press into the earth and remember that their maker has their back. Mindy Heimer also leads “Holy Yoga,” but on this night, she was a participant. She…

Weather forecasters on Sunday issued warnings about potential blizzard conditions along the Palmer Divide and the Eastern Plains while commuters should expect a messy Monday morning drive in metro Denver. A winter storm will move into the Front Range on Sunday night, and while it should not deliver a lot of snow it will arrive just in time to make for a treacherous morning drive, said Zach Hiris, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boulder. “It’s going to be a quick hitting storm but it’s unfortunately going to be inconveniently tied to the morning commute,” Hiris said. The…

Michael Malone was struggling to find an explanation in the film, but he did feel confident enough to issue a guarantee. To hell with the percentages. This is Nikola Jokic. In the second half of the season, Malone told The Denver Post last Sunday, “I know Nikola’s going to be a guy that is ultra-efficient in every spot on the floor.” The Nuggets coach had no reason to be convinced of that based on the start of 2023-24. In Jokic’s first 31 games, he shot 54.1% from the field — compared to his 63.2% clip last season — and 32.1%…

The 19-year-old son of the man Denver police originally suspected as the gunman in a fatal New Year’s party homicide is now in jail for a murder investigation, according to Denver police. Police now believe Isaiah Hernandez, not Anthony Lopez, as they originally believed, fired the shots that killed Mario Rivera, 42, and critically wounded another partygoer, police said in a news release and an arrest affidavit for Hernandez. Police arrested Lopez Jan. 1 and Hernandez Jan. 3. Hernandez is in custody for an investigation of first-degree murder, police said, and court records show Lopez is now charged with accessory…

The Rockies’ evolution will be televised. We know that much. But who’ll televise their games, how fans will view those games, how much fans will pay to watch, how many fans will tune in, and how a new TV deal will affect the club’s finances are major issues. With spring training just five weeks away, the Rockies and Major League Baseball have yet to reveal a new game plan. A major league source said on Friday that an announcement is not imminent. When a plan is reached, indications are that MLB will acquire the broadcasting rights and produce the games,…
